    1. [MSTISHOM-L] TCHGS ANNUAL MEETING PLANNED
    2. The Tishomingo County Genealogical and Historical Society will hold their 4th Annual Meeting on Tuesday, April 11th, at the Iuka Public Library, beginning at 6:30 p.m,. Following the election and installation of new officers, their program will feature the director of the Local Government Records Program of the Mississippi Department of Archives and History. Bill Hanna, who has served in various capacities with the department for over twenty-five years, will address the group regarding records maintained by counties and municipalities in Mississippi and the program the Department of Archives and History administers to provide assistance to local officials to insure the preservation of records in local communities that have significant historical value. His remarks will focus on the many problems local officials face and how local governments around the state, in cooperation with the Local Government Records Program, are overcoming the numerous obstacles faced in maintaining both modern and older public records of the community. He will also be discussing the construction of the new William F. Winter Archives and History Building. Groundbreaking ceremonies for this new facilities were held in March and construction is currently underway. The public, local government officials, and area historical related societies are invited to attend. Refreshments will be served. --

    2. The number after the names indicate the page number which information about that person is located on (it is an index). The book itself offers the following information for each person: No. of cattle, No. of horses, No. of mules, No. of sheep or goats, No. of swine, No. of carriages or wheeled vehicles, Pianos-organs or melodeons, No. of watches, Value of jewelry, gold/silver pcs., No. of guns, No. of pistols, bowie knives, dirks, sword canes, Total valuation of property, Aggregate sales tax per family.     3. Ellen, There is a John W. Tollison buried in the Jumpertown Cemetery in Prentiss County with dates of 04/06/1845 - 04/05/1928. There are other entries with the surname but this is the oldest. Ellen, The southern district would refer to areas such as we now know as Belmont in Tishomingo county; however, in 1850 and 1860, old Tishomingo County encompassed all of Alcorn, Prentiss and Alcorn. Would have been in either southern Tishomingo or Prentiss counties. Also, Itawamba county borders the southern end of Tishomingo county. My gggg-grandfather is on the 1850 and 1860 Cenus as being located in the Southern Dist. no township listed. His name is William Tolleson, age 63 in 1850. That info might give me a clue where to look for more info, Alcorn, Printiss, or Tishomingo counties.
