    1. [MSTISHOM-L] Lookup offer
    2. Ian Curley
    3. Hi. I'm going to be ordering some Tishomingo County records from the local FHC, either all at once if they'll let me, or one at a time if they won't. If anyone needs a lookup from any of these sources, I'll be glad to have a look, if you'll let me know the surname ahead of time so I can do it all at once. The records I'm ordering are: 1. Old Tishomingo County and Alcorn County Will Book, 1854-1921 2. Court records 1847-1855 3. Index to deed books of old Tishomingo County and Alcorn County 1836-1910 Margaret Curley icmc@accutek.com

    2. Betsy, Thanks for the info on the Civil War site. That map is a good place to start. The entire site is full of info on Mississippi in the Civil War. I'm sure I will go back there often, as several of the Watts men from MS fought. 3. Brenda, Thank you so much for responding. I am so anxious to find some info on this family. All I have is the write up in a history of Tish. Co. The slave girl was borrowed from a John M Nelson, a resident of Eastport, which couldn't have been too far from where the Longs lived. After Adeline killed Eliza Long, she ran to the house of a neighbor, James Conner and Mrs. Rebecca Aldridge and told them Mrs Long had burned to death. A large crowd assembled at the Long home. The crowd included, Jacob Haigh, JP. The witnesses in the case were Mrs Mary Conner, Mrs Rebecca Aldridge, German Powell, James Conner, Robert Hodges, Dr. Benjamin D Hodges. She was executed by William L Duncan, Sheriff. I hope some of these people are listed somewhere. 3. Margaret, How nice to share - that's what it's all about, huh? I looked in the 1850 census to see if maybe James H. was living near his parents and although I found two different bunches of Pedens, James H. was not listed. Did he leave the county after marriage? 3. Susan, The story said that this slave belonged to a neighbor, John M. Nelson of Eastport. So, that tells us that they lived near Eastport which is still a part of Tishomingo County. I see John M. Nelson in the 1850 census but no Long family nearby. They must have left the county after her death. She is probably buried somewhere near Eastport without a marker would be my guess. Are any records of that time available in Tishomingo County? This story was written up as the Second Legal Execution in the county, in a history of Tish. County. Does anyone have a suggestion as to where to go for more info on this. Thanks for any help.
