    3. George, very good idea but no funeral home records at that time - newspaper probably best bet - Alcorn county website has some newspaper accounts but not for 1898/99 or 1900. ----- Original Message ----- From: "George Pearson" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, March 28, 2004 5:41 PM Subject: RE: [MSTISHOM-L] Permelia Sanders > > have you tried old funeral home records > > >From: "Harold Low" <[email protected]> > >Reply-To: [email protected] > >To: [email protected] > >Subject: RE: [MSTISHOM-L] Permelia Sanders Date: Sun, 28 Mar 2004 16:15:25 > >-0600 > > > >Hi Penny > > > >No I haven't had any answers on my Permelia Sanders. 3. Hi Penny No I haven't had any answers on my Permelia Sanders. Her husband's name was Gilbreth Winters Sanders. He died March 20, 1907 and is burried in the Berryman Sanders cemetery in Perry co., TN. Gilbreth was in Alcorn co., MS in 1900 but Permelia had already died. We believe she is buried in the Shiloh Cumberland Presbyerian Church Cemetery in Alcorn co., MS. She has no tombstone. When my mother was a young teen she and two of her sisters and their father went to visit family there and someone took them to the cemetery and told them that this is where Permelia was buried. So cemetery books won't help me with this. Only old newspapers or maybe some old church records. Thank you for your help. 3. Hi I need some help. I am trying to find out when exactly my great grandmother Permelia Ann Taylor Sanders died. She was in a family picture taken around March 1899. She was not listed in the 1900 cencus but her family was and it listed her husband as a widow. I have tried to do a inter library loan on newspapers during that time but came up with nothing. They said all they had started in 1946. Can someone help me out please. This is one of my questions. Thank you for your help. Thank you, Judy

    2. Harold Low
    3. Hi I am looking for info on a Jesse Bush family that lived in Alcorn co., MS in 1900. Jesse married Sophonie C. Graham and they had the following children James Ezekel, Joseph William, Arthur A., Cora L., and Gadford F. I am particular interested in cemetery records and marriage records. I believe that Arthur A. married my great Aunt Flora Sanders. He is not listed in the 1910 census and she is listed as a Bush in the 1910 census in Fannin co., Tx. So any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Judy

    3. For years I have used PELLON fabric to do rubbings of headstones. Works the same as paper and Pellon is easy to work with. Do not get the kind that has iron on backing!! The kind of Pellon I buy is soft and thin and makes excellent rubbings. I buy it by the bolt (because I do so many rubbings). After getting an imprint of the headstone, I take another piece of pellon and place it over the rubbing so it won't smear, then fold it gently. When I get home, I frame some of them (especially direct lines). Looks great on my genealogy walls in the hallway. Not only do I have the data I'm looking for, but when I go down that hallway, I can remember my ancestor of long ago and the trip taken to find their headstone. Nancy K(Crook)Stewart

    1. Re: [MSTISHOM-L] Head Stones
    2. The rubbing is one way, and they also make rubbing chalks and crayons for purchase. The best method I have found that works best is to first clean the heastone and this does not damage the stones in any way. You will need to go to a local craft store or your local florist and purchase a large piece of flat foam (NOT OASIS) BUT DRY, HARD FOAM that is used to insert flower arrangements in. The foam comes in white and green colors. Simply cut the foam into small pieces (about the size of a chalkboard eraser) then rub vigourously over the headstone that is hard to read and this will clean and brighten it up without damaging the stones. This will make taking the rubbing easier or make the stone easier to photograph. I have used this technique for many years and it works wonderfully. Jim Killough
