Sandy, Tell me a little more. I have a Cecil Ervin "Jack" Price but nothing else fits. Did they or their ancestors ever reside near Tishomingo County, MS? Brenda, I asked my daddy, Leon Bruton, about it. I remember Him talking about Tommy Dean and I remember also that the twin girls that married Deans that lived on Hwy 25 N of Iuka being some kin to him. Daddy said Tommy decided he wasn't much for the pro lifestyle and came back home. I had also asked Dad if he knew of a Dizzy connection and he didn't know of any, so much of my information was second hand. I did a little search of Dizzy's people and couldn't find anything except that Dizzy's people earlier were across the line in Alabama from Wiggins, MS. The Ancestry.com site had a tree that identified Dizzy's wife from the Wiggins area. As far as I know Tommy Dean and his folks live north of Iuka. The genealogy society needs to send someone to do an in depth interview with him! I live in Knoxville, TN now and have been gone from Tishomingo for almost 5 years. Miss it a lot! Rebecca
I need to find out when Charle Streetman (or his wife Cora) deeded their place I think to Luther Wilkins sometime between 1954 and 1972. If anyone can check on this for me at the courthouse I'd appreciate it. I also need a copy of the "apprenticeship" document that assigned my father, Willie Robert Smith, to Charlie Streetman in 1933 by his mother Maggie Mae (Streetman) Smith. I have seen that document, and remember part of it, so know it exists in Iuka. Dad had it, but lost it before he died in 1986. I would greatly appreciate it if I could get another copy of it. I concur. If Tommy is still living, someone from the historical society could ask him if he remembered plowing Charlie Streetman's cornfield a short while before Charlie died of cancer (June 10, 1972). Dad was taking care of him till he passed away. He took a leave of absence from his job in Franklin, Indiana to come down there until Charlie died. Yep, Because Charlie Streetman lived on that same road that Grissom's Chapel is on. In fact, his property was within walking distance of Grissom's chapel, which was next to Homer Grissom's place. I forget what the main road there is to Burnsville, but it turns into 25 going North.... I think Charlie's property was the old Butler farm... Do your records include Jack Price? Ihave no dates for him. He was married to Edith Hindman b. 1915 if that helps. They had 2 children -- Carl Edward & "Pee Wee". I'd appreciate any help. Thanks! Yep, I agree, Will. Tommy is married to my cousin, Diane Phifer. His Dean family lived on Hwy 25 north of Iuka and could have very well been plowing for the public in the Burnsville area. I believe we can put this one to rest, huh? Rebecca, This is exactly what I was thinking. Tommy's family were big farmers and Tommy is a couple of years older than me - somewhere near 57-58 - so he could very well have been plowing at that age. The above surnames come to me in a report as being sent in a query to this list. I will be happy to share on either of these surnames as they are my lines also. Thanks,
Well, my guess is that it was Tommy Dean who plowed Charlie Streetman's field that day and my Dad just mistook him for "Dizzy". That is obviously the case, so I appreciate all the feedback in helping me figure that one out. An ancestry World Tree says Dizzy's wife, Patricia Nash was born 1906 in Denham, Mississippi. It says also that all his siblings and his parents were born and died in either Arkansas, Missouri, or Oklahoma, mostly buried in Phelps Co, MO except him. It looks like his Mississippi connection may have been his wife.
Dizzy Dean was born in Lucas Arkansas. He is buried in the Bond cemetery in Bond MS (outside Wiggins)...which appears to be near Hattisburg.

His broadcast partner was Pee Wee Reese and between the ball game and commercials for Falstaff, "The choisest product of the Brewers art", Diz was always telling about his pickle farm and canning factory in Wiggins, Mississippi. Sorry I dont know. He is older than I. I believe they all lived north of Iuka. Seems there should be someone on this list that is kin to Tommy Dean. A guy, (?) Robinson, also from Iuka, played pro ball. He was ahead of me in school, would be about 46 or 47 now. I have found no connection to Dizzy Dean's people to Tishomingo County though. Looks like they came from Edgefield District, SC to Georgia and South Alabama, to Missouri and Arkansas. Rebecca Moss
Might want to check out this website regarding Tommy Dean. http://www.baseball-almanac.com/players/player.php?p=deanto01
Hello: Sorry, but I just have to get into this discussion. Yes, Tommy Dean did play a little in the Major League and was from Iuka. As a baseball fan all my life, I have never heard that "Ole Diz" was in the Tishom. area. I could be wrong. After his BB career was over and he broadcast games on TV with Pee Wee Reese, he talked a lot about Yazoo, Mississippi. Never heard him speak of MSTISHOM area. Possibly so......Would he have lived in the general vicinity of Shady Grove Baptist Church near Burnsville around 1969 to 1972? ----------------------------------------------------------- My Civil War and Genealogy Home Page: http://web.infoave.net/~wolfman Descendants of William B. and Eleanor Rice on CD-ROM http://web.infoave.net/~wolfman/wbrice.htm My Portrait Album at Camp Chase Gazette! http://www.campchase.com/WillSmith.htm ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rebecca Moss" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, May 08, 2004 10:49 PM Subject: Re: [MSTISHOM-L] Dizzy Dean > Tommy Dean from Iuka played pro ball.
