    1. [MSTISHOM] New Surnames to the list SMITH / HARRIS
    2. Nina Harkey
    3. SMITH is of course a name I have been hunting for a while but making headway. I am having trouble getting anywhere on SARAH REBECCA HARRIS. Sarah Rebecca Harris b. 07 May 1838 in Alabama d. 28 Jan 1908 in Pope County, Arkansas married (in Corinth, Alcorn County, Mississippi) Lewis Marshall Smith b. 18 Oct 1834 in Corinth, MS d. 26 Jan 1904, Pope County, AR Mississippi Marriages, 1776-1935 Record Name: Sarah R. Harris Spouse: Lewis Smith Marriage Date: 06 Jun 1858 County: Alcorn Lewis Marshall smith shows in Tishomingo census for 1840 and 1850. By 1860 ha and Sarah married and moved to Yell County, AR. I am finding nothing that might lead me to Sarah Harris's parents. I have looked in Tishomingo and surrounding counties but nothing reliable has presented itself. There are some HARRIS possibilities I have found on the Tishomingo web site. Anyone have HARRIS in Tishomingo that might have a Sarah? Rumor has it her grandmother was Indian. No idea if on the maternal or paternal side. The Smith children proved it and received land in Oklahoma. There is question of whether Cherokee or Choctaw. I have not located the papers yet. Ideas anyone? Nina

    2. Billie, Thank you for your reply, but I don't recognize the HANKS family you described. My ggg/grandfather, Matthew E. HANKS, is found in Tishomingo in 1860 census. The other surnames were HANKS siblings of Matthew, who married into those other surnames listed and, also, were found in Tishomingo in 1860. Matthew and family moved to AR before 1880. 3. Lola, I was checking a Hanks family, some time ago. Seemed like the mother was named Cora but I can't quite remember the dad's name. There were two sons and one of those died over Belgium in one of the world wars. Sorry my info is so sketchy but it's been awhile. Does any of this ring a bell? 2. Jan Berryman
    3. I have not posted a query in some time so I hope there are some new folks that can help. I am looking to connect my BERRYMAN family. My Great Grandfather, John M. Berryman first shows up in the 1850 census in Tippah County, MS married to Ann. According to the census he was born in Tennessee about 1827. They had the following children: William C. Berryman: b 1844, MS Malinda J. Berryman: b about 1843-1847, MS d Sept 1912, MS James Henry Berryman: b July 1847 d before January 1920, TX Lavonia A. Berryman: b 1852 MS Joseph Benjamin Berryman: b Aug 4, 1856 Tippah County MS, d Aug 3, 1924 Alcorn Co, MS R. A. Berryman: b 1859 MS Hiram Louis Berryman: (My grandfather) b Aug 17, 1862 Kossuth MS, d Nov 4, 1944 Monroe Co, MS Mary A. Berryman: b about 1866, MS, d April 26, 1931 Alcorn Co MS After Ann died, John married Emma (I think her last name was Rendy) John and Emma had the following children: Louisa J. Berryman b about 1877 Alcorn Co MS, Married Marion Smith Richard Culle Berryman b 1878 Alcorn Co MS, Married Alta Pitts. d 1937 in Van Zant Co, TX There are several BERRYMAN families in the area covered by Alcorn, Tippah and Tishomingo Counties in Mississippi as well as Hardeman and Mc Nairy Counties in Mississippi. While I know that my Great Grandfather, John BERRYMAN has to be related to these families, I have not been able to find a document of any kind to link him to any of them. If anyone has even a clue, I would be thankful. Surnames include but are not limited to: BERRYMAN, FRYAR, CRUM, JONES, LEDFORD, MINCEY, RENCHER, WILBANKS, and related.

    3. Hi Barry, I am very interested in the postulated connection between a bank robbery of the Tishomingo Savings and Loan Association in Corinth, MS on Dec 7, 1874 and persons in the Yow line above living in the area. My step-grandmother was Mary Narcissus (Polly) Dancer and I have a newspaper clipping of the old Dancer Homeplace with the family standing in front. The "Gang" supposedly stopped over at the Dancer Home in the Hopewell Community (old Iuka - Corinth road) the night before the bank was robbed; assuming this is the same bank, right?
