    3. Hello, Wyn -- Here is the information I have on Elias HOVIS. I'm wondering if there are two different Eliases or if this Elias had two wives and two sets of children. I don't have listed any of the children you mentioned, but I do have nine listed for Elias and Eliza Ann, as follows: Elias HOVIS, died February 1873. Married (ca. 1825-26?) to Eliza Ann UNKNOWN born 1807; died 11 January 1847, Tippah Co, MS; buried at Ripley Cemetery, Ripley, Tippah Co, MS. Children of Elias and Eliza Ann: 1. Lawson Berry HOVIS m. (in NC) Laura S. "Laurie" PHYPHER (5 children) I have some further information on this family. 2. Annie E. HOVIS m. Unknown CAMPBELL, lived in Carroll Co, MS in 1873 3. Fannie HOVIS m. James NEAL, lived in Carroll Co, MS in 1873 when her dad died 4. Harriett HOVIS m. Newton MISKELLY 5. Nancy HOVIS m. Henry SAUNDERS 6. S.G. HOVIS (no further info) 7. Taylor HOVIS [NOTE: 1870 Tippah Co, MS Census: Taylor Hovis 22 M Wks. on Farm MS. 254 Fentin 27 M Wks. on Farm NC. Fanny 16 F MS. (These appear to be the grown children of Elias HOVIS and siblings of Lawson Berry HOVIS. I don't have "Fentin" which I imagine is Fenton -- but could be a cousin or other relative.)] 8. J.W.B. HOVIS b. ca. 1835, NC (based on 1870 census); d. May 1880. Shown in 1870 census as J.N.B. HOVIS; Left a widow, must have married a second time) Had 3 children I know of: Ann, L.B., and Pink. 9. Joseph E. HOVIS b/ 24 Nov 1844; d. 25 Dec 1906; bur. Ripley Cemetery, Ripley, Tippah Co, MS; m. Mary E. KING, d/o Pinkney G. KING & Mary UNKNOWN. Mary was b. 1845, Ripley, Tippah Co, MS; d. May 1931. They had six children: Walter J., Rufus, Ollie S., Nat Carter, Mary, Joseph H. I have some further info on this family. This is information I've gathered but I have not verified all of it If anyone notices anything they know to be in error, please let me know. My interest in the HOVIS family is that a daughter of Lawson Berry HOVIS & Laura PHYFER married one of my TIGERT cousins and a daughter of my gg grandfather David Porter TIGRET married a son of Lawson & Laura. (There are various spellings of the TIGERT name through the generations & sometimes in the same generation.) Hope this helps someone. Becky Smith
