Robert Dortch settled in Ouachita Parish in West Monroe, La. near Bayou De Siard. Robert Dortch was a member of the Western Star Masonic Lodge 24 in the 1860's. He died near Oxford, Mississippi, on December 4,1869, at age 40. He was born about 1829. He married Mary Bethune Martin, the daughter of John Bethune Martin of Moore County, NC and Nancy Hill Harris of Montgomery County, NC. Robert Dortch and Mary Bethune Martin were married in Holly Springs, Marshall County, Mississippi. Their children were Alexander Martin Dortch b. 25 May 1852, d. 21 Jul 1873; William Eaton Dortch b. 24 Jan 1854, d. 11 Jul 1901; John Bethune Dortch b. 25 Aug 1862, m. Mary Louis Pegues 30 April 1890; Robert Dortch b. 8 Dec 1864, d. 1866
