George Washington VAUGHAN and Mary Marion PETTIPOOL lived in Tippah County (plantation was built in 1847) until 1870 when the county line moved and put them in Benton County. They were very active in both Marshall and Benton Counties. But I have no information about their life in Tippah County. Is anyone else researching either name -- VAUGHAN or PETTIPOOL (P. Pool) in Tippah County? Bill Allen <[email protected]>
I found this that might interest you. POOL, Mrs. Betsy, died December 1879 in Benton County, MS. She was born Lunenburg Co. VA, January 14, 1804, daughter of John and Sarah Morgan. Moved to Madison Co. AL 1818 and married April 10, 1823 to S.P. Pool, came to MS 1848. Her daughter is Mrs M.M. Vaughn of Ashland,MS. (This is from the Southern Advocate newspaper in Ashland January 22, 1880) The 1850 Census of Tippah County, MS shows George M. Vaughn 35, Va with wife Mary, 23, AL and daughter Elizabeth 5/12 born in MS.
