While I cannot name a family that Jonesborough was named for, I will tell you that some historians have theorized that the name was transferred from another place with the same name, either in S. Carolina or N. Carolina, Ga., etc. But, if you look around you may notice that there is a Jones Creek that runs thru the area, and it is quite likely, to me at least, that this creek must have been named by some Jones family or after some Jones, etc. I have looked at the early census records of the area and it appears to me that there were a few Jones candidates available for use by both the town and the creek. I do not have that information available at present, but you should be able to find out for yourselves, just check the 1840 Census, etc. Ron Hughes
