According to him, Jonesboro was the largest town in the northeastern part of the county before the war but was pretty well destroyed during the war. I have heard that rather than rebuild, most of the business moved to Chalybeate Springs which is now Chalybeate. Jonesboro's early settlers were the Garretts, the Rays and the Millers.
