Does anyone know the parents of this JOHN W. CARTER? I am trying to find out if my Carter/Dean ancestors were his parents. My ancestors JAMES CARTER and wife SALINA ROXANNA DEAN lived in Tippah Co. MS from about 1838 to about 1851. Before moving to Tippah Co., they had a son WILLIAM L. CARTER born 1837 in Hardeman Co., TN. As far as any other records say, they did not have another child until 1841 when their son ROBERT M. CARTER was born in Tippah Co. MS. Robert's date of birth is consistently 1841 in every census. However, the 1840 census indicates that parents JAMES and SALINA had two sons as of 1840. If this JOHN W. CARTER named in the mortality schedule was their son, it would explain why the 1840 census said they had two sons as of 1840 (since son ROBERT was not born until 1841). The mortality schedule says JOHN W. CARTER died in January 1850, thus occurring before the census was taken in Tippah County that year. That would explain why he was not named with JAMES and SALINA that year, if he was their son but had passed away earlier in the year. Any information appreciated. email: [email protected]
