Ann Johnston-Marshall Waldrup- and all Waldrop Cousins. This is a message from Harold Clements , who has a Joseph R. Waldrop in his line. This comes from the 1860 census, J. R. Waldrop wife,(wife's name is Emily Isabella Smith) four children in Tippah, This J. R. is listed as being born in1823, Jasper , Georgia. He says he has three Greenberrys in his line. The 1860 - He was listed as a Physician. I know of: Greenberry Waldrop (Rev.) papa of Joseph Ryan Waldrop Green Berry Waldrop who was the nephew of Greenberry. the son of Ezekile Waldrop, He lives in Clanton, Alabama, 40 miles North of Montgomery. Near Tuscaloosa , where Ezekile and his family settled. Cross ya'll fingers , that this J. R. will tie in. Besure and read about his run in with law, this Joseph R. Waldrop has...and see how he fits in with our Joseph Ryan Waldrop and his getting in trouble while in Escatawpa, Alabama, Washington. Beating up the Judge of Probate, while still in his KKK sheet....took the Judge's cane and broke it over his head and disfigured his face. the story in the Journal , written by Judge of Probate McCarthy, it was a letter, by the Judge of Probate written to to the Gov. that Waldrop would have killed him, if a man named Moss had not called him off of him. McCarthy couldn't finish his term, because of the incident. I am trying to find out if Joseph R. Waldrop ....is the one that had a run in with the law or several run ins. In the early 1850s he left his DeSoto and family after a run in with the law. Then in 1860 he is in Tippah County....having a run in with the law...the 1866 he shows up in Washington County, having a run in with the law there. If this is the one and same Joseph Ryan Waldrop we now have four wives and nine children. The plot thickens. So far he has a reputation of walking off and leaving his wives with young children. I would assume this was from his confict with the law.?? Nancy Heard is the only wife, whom he married when he was young that was his age. It appears his other wives are quite a few years younger that he and come from families with money or land. My Sara Baxter Waldrop, my great grandmother was born in 1842. Emily Isabella Smith (Tippah) born in 1831. Nancy Heard, born in 1822 Victoria Thomas(Texas) ...I will have to check My dad, once told me his grandpapa rode with the Quantrail. Now, that he is being traced to Mo.....I will check that out. There was a gang in Washington County , Alabama call the Murrell's gang. I thought that was the one daddy was talking about. I am so happy to have Harold on board with us, researsching. He lives not to far from Montgomery, Alabama and I only live 85 miles away in Columbus, Georgia. I am looking forward to one day meeting him and sharing information. He also told me he was 6'4" and his son was 6'6". Joseph Ryan Waldrop was 6'6". If anyone else in interested, I have more information on Greenberry, Ezekiel, Waldrop- Major Waldrup. Benjamin Waldrop had several sons, two spelled their name Waldrop "drop" the other sons spelled their name Waldrop "drup". The brothers have been documented together.. Greenberry and Ezekiel are spelled Waldrop. Major spelled.Waldrop "drup" is another story we will go into later. Would be interesting to know how the changing occured. My guess would be the census taker or the mere swing of the pen. Will keep you all, posted. Love ya'll, Sandra -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Joseph Waldrop Date: Fri, 22 Feb 2002 13:03:59 -0600 From: Harold Clements <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Hi Sandra, I have a Joseph Waldrop in my line with similarity to the one you seek. My data on him is very limited, but if you think he may be the same one, I'll be glad to share what I have on him. Joseph Waldrop - born ~ 1822, Jasper Co., GA married Emily Isabella Smith ~ 1846, AL Two of their children were Isaac (no data) and Elizabeth, who married an Lum Giddings. This Joseph, according to family lore, had a sharp difference of opinion with another gentleman, and they settled the matter with pistols. Duels had been outlawed by the 1850's, so rather than facing trial, Joseph became a fugitive, fleeing Alabama to Mississippi. I think I found this Joseph on the 1880 census. He is listed in the Missouri Precinct of Pike County, Arkansas. The only children listed are a son-in-law (Columbus Giddens) and a John Schwartz (unknown connection). It is said that Joseph was a member of the Alabama Legislature when the duel occurred - and everyone knew it was a "fair fight" - so the law never pursued him very vigorously.
