Hello, I don't have the same surnames you do, but I'm interested in the town, Cotton Plant. A brother of my grandfather, William Henry McKinney, was killed in an explosion at Cotton Plant, May 31, 1883.My grandfather's name was John J McKinney. William was born in 1841 and John in 1843. They served together from the state of MS in the Civil War. They belonged to Ballentine's Regiment, Co E. During the war they met Albert McAllister and after the war was over, he came home with the McKinney boys and met their sister, Mary Josephine McKinney. They later were married and Albert became a Dentist at Blue Mountain, MS. The McKinneys were born in Lincoln Co, TN and the family was on the 1850 and 1860 census in LCT. Their father died in 1867 and by 1870 the famiily was in Hill Co., TX. I don't know where they were during the war. The boys joined the service in west TN and this was a unit from MS. Lots of unanswered questions there. William and John both married in TX and William moved his family to MS by the time their third child was born. I would appreciate any help you can give me.
