Hi, Is there anyone here who is local to the Tippah Co. MS/Hardeman Co. TN area? I'd like to make a research trip this summer, and am looking for info about where to stay/eat, my best avenues for research and what preparations I can make. There's really not much info online. My understanding is that there is a library in Ripley with a genealogical section, but there are no motels. And I can't seem to find info on when the Tippah Co. Gen Soc. is open - not even a phone number (just an address). I'm particularly interested in how to find burial info. I know I have DAWSON family buried in Tippah, but they are not in the online listing which is supposed to have *all* the tombstones. A least two should be in the Enon Cemetery - is that easy to find? Is there any way to access burial records? TIA, Chandra

Hi Chandra, You need to call the library, the H&G society is located in the library at 662-837-7773. There is a motel in Ripley, the name of it is Briarwood Inn, the phone number is 662-837-0002. Dining in Tippah is pretty limited although there is one or two places that serves good food. If you hang out in North Tippah which it sounds like that's where you are interested in, there is a hotel called Budget Inn ph. 662-223-4021 but it's pretty old. Corinth, Mississippi has the most motels and restaurants it's about 20 miles east of Walnut on hwy 72, closer to Tennessee and Hardeman County. About what's online in Tippah: The cemetery records are incomplete, unfortunately, no african american cemeteries were recorded and the records end in the early 1980's. Anyone buried after that time is not listed unless someone has sent the information to me to record. I'm not familiar with the cemetery you are looking for, I looked in the Tippah County Heritage book and the cemetery is not listed.
