Just as a guess, I would suggest that the original land your family obtained was possibly in the disputed territory with Tennesee and thus was originally thought to be in Mississippi, before the re-survey was completed and the property claims settled. Certainly the family names you mention are/were common in Tippah Co. between 1840 and 1860. Ron
