Hi, I have quite a bit of information on this family. The Elias I have was married to Eliza Lewis Witherspoon. He was born in 1793 and in North Carolina. They married 3 Jan 1824. According to the Tippah County Death Notices 1836-1936, he died in 1873. The notice was filed on Feb. 22 1873. I have lots more. I am searching for Elias Hovis, born about 1800 in NC and his wife Mary J. born about 1826. I have no date of death for either. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Wyn ==== MSTIPPAH Mailing List ==== Send in your old photographs of Tippah County to include on our new communities section.
The Annual Mid-South CW Show, will be in Memphis Sat & Sun, Feb. 19th & 20th, at the Fairgrounds. Lots to see from Civil War days & many books. There is usually 2 booths set up that have old postcards for sale. Thousands, from all southern states & most of the others. Thats where I found the Rainey Hotel card, from New Albany. If you use the main entrance off E. Parkway, it will be the first building on the right. Joe Mercer

I don't have William's DOB or DOD but show his parents as Joseph J. Johnson and Arena Henson. I regret that I do not recall the source of my information on his parents.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/iJB.2ACE/962.1.1 Message Board Post: I will defer to your knowledge of Joshua and Nathan's parents being unknown. My information came from Steven Rutherford's website, which although extensive often has errors. I greatly appreciate the help. The only two that you didn't give me info. on were Jodie E. Bartlett and Bessie Thelma Bartlett. I figured out Jodie E. was in fact Joseph "Jodie" E. Bartlett son of John Campbell Bartlett and Clara Bullock, born October 26, 1888 in Mississippi, and died September 28, 1915 in Dumas, Tippah County, Mississippi; buried Pine Grove Cemetery, Tippah County, Mississippi. Joseph "Jodie" married Willie Maybell Cook on July 26, 1911 in Tippah County, Mississippi. She was born November 06, 1890 in Mississippi, and died November 21, 1942; buried in Bethel church of Christ Cemetery, Tippah Co., MS. Notes for JOSEPH E. BARTLETT: "Tippah County Cemeteries" published on the Tippah Co. Genealogy website has his birthday as "October 26, 1880." However, I believe this to be a misprint because it does not agree with census information. I need to go by Pine Grove Cemetery and verify the information. So the only one of my original list that I lack connecting to the main Bartlett clan is Bessie Thelma listed below: BESSIE THELMA BARTLETT was born Abt. 1892 in Mississippi. She married GROVER CLEVELAND GRISHAM December 28, 1911 in Tippah County, Mississippi, son of EPHARIM GRISHAM and ELIZABETH PATTERSON. He was born September 23, 1890 in Mississippi, and died December 1925 in Trimble, Tennessee. Child of BESSIE BARTLETT and GROVER GRISHAM is: i. ALTIE CLEO VIOLA GRISHAM, b. October 10, 1914, Tippah County, Mississippi; d. November 30, 1996, Memphis, Tennessee.

I'd be very interested in your source for Joshua and Mary. Nathan married Peggy Hunter. Their daughter, Nellie, married Joseph Bartlett. Nellie and Joseph's son, Nathan, married Mary Jane Bartlett. Joshua married 1)Winnie Herrin/Herring. Their son, Joseph, is the one who married Nellie (above). Joshua married 2)Winny Williams. Their son, Nathan, married Narcissa Suttles. Their daughter, Mary Jane, married Nathan (above). Recent information indicates the two Winnies may be the same person. But that's a whole 'nother story. Andrew Jackson Bartlett and Icie Bartlett were children of Nathan Crockett Bartlett who was the son of Nathan and Mary Jane. James Madison Bartlett was the son of Daniel Boone Bartlett who was the son of Nathan and Mary Jane.
