    2. Karen
    3. I am looking for information on the Seth Swindle that is listed in Tippah co. 1840 census. do you have any information on this family ? there is also a Swindle and Howe family story that has been passed down for generations in the Swindle and Howe families that in the late 1700's a Lord and Lady Howe came from England to the Carolinas on their honeymoon. Lady Howe was so frighten by the rough voyage that she refused to return to England. Lord Howe went back, contracted pneumonia and died in England. He never saw his son William Howe Jr. Lady Howe married Seth Swindle and he was the ancestor of the Benton County, Tennessee Swindle families. There is a William Howe found in Benton co. tn. that is Ancestor to my Howe line. I know there may be some truth to this story but how much is not known. Is any one familiar with a Lord William Howe who married about 1780-90? or the Seth Swindle that married this Lady Howe ? thank you for any help or information. Karen

    1. Champion Family Migration from KY > Hardeman County, TN > Tippah County
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Champion Anderson Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/iJB.2ACE/982 Message Board Post: I am trying to determine which members of the Champion Family living in KY from 1795-1825 emigrated to Hardeman County, TN around 1825-30. In the 1820 KY Census it appears that there are the following Champion families in KY (most likely all related to the Edgecombe/Halifax County NC Champions - although I do not know for sure)- Livingston County: James Champion aged 45+ Drury Champion (listed as Laurry) aged 45+ Mary Champion aged 45+ William Champion aged 45+ Willis Champion, Sr. aged 45+ Caldwell County: Thomas Champion aged 26-45 Washington County: Nancy Champion aged 45+ Woodford County: Edward Champion aged 45+ In the 1830 TN Census the following Champion families exist in Hardeman County: Drury Champion aged 60-69 William Champion aged 40-49 I am fairly confident that these Hardeman County Champions are from the same Champion families from KY listed above given the unusual but common name Drury. Additionally, my GGGGrandfather James M. Champion (who was born in Livingston County, KY around 1808) married his wife Parthena H. Anderson on October 2, 1833 in Hardeman County, TN. [They later moved to Tippah County, MS and raised their family of 8 children; William Henry Champion, Elliard D. Champion, Nancy H. Champion, Leander M. Champion, Sarah Leota Champion, Thomas Hardeman Champion, James Greeley Champion (my GGGrandfather), and Amanda Adaline Champion]. I would like to determine which adult Champions emigrated from KY to TN around 1825 and of these adults, whcih one had a son (or nephew for that matter) that traveled with them named James H Champion. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

    3. It wasn't a project. Sara Lois Mohundro remembers the cemetery and said that the man just hooked a slide up to a mule and carted the stones away. She remembers so clearly because she was going to school at the old school before it burned. The cemetery was just down the a road from there. She said there were large stones it the cemetery, some with spires and alot of old Indian graves. I think we narrowed the time down to 1928-1931. She said the school burned when she was in the 8th grade and it had to be before then, she turned 86 on Friday. The cemetery was located North of Commerce St. on Fredrick Road next door to where Doss Martindale lived. The old Bell home is next door to Doss's. Do you know where that is? The house that was built over the cemetery is red brick and it has a enclosed porch that was closed in with white siding, it's on the north side of the road, just around the curve. It is said that he used the stones as footings for the house. The man died in 1940 and nothing was ever done about it. Another house was built next door to that in the 1970's, and possibly is over the graves as well. 3. Mitchell Cemetery in the town limits in Walnut, MS was demolished and built over during the 1930's. A man simply removed the stones and built on top of the graves. In an effort to have the cemetery restored I am trying to create a list of the graves that were in that cemetery. Please check your records and see if any of your family members were buried there. Since it was demolished before the cemeteries in Tippah were logged none of the graves are on the website, some are located in the death notices, which I have listed below. The last person I have listed was buried in 1924. The Hopkins family at the bottom were my ancestors. Any infomation you have would help.
