He is listed in the 1910 Census of LAMAR CO. MS. ( Beat 3 ) as, NEWT WHITEHEAD, H M W 40 M2 LUTITIA, W F W M1 MAUD, D F W 14 S EDGAR, S M W 7 S Some years back when a cemetery book was being put together on LAMAR CO. I was trying to help & I talked to I.V. & A.E. "SAM " RAYBORN they told me at the time that NEWT WHITEHEAD their grandfather was buried in the CANEY Cem. in a unmarked grave. At that time I sent notes to Mrs. ANDERSON on this grave as told, J.R. " NEWT " WHITEHEAD, also noted was the fact that his wife ROSA was said to have been buried in AL. ROSA was the grandmother of these RAYBORN men. Both SAM & I.V. are dead at this time, need to clear up if this was J.R. or Jr. ? As noted NEWT WHITEHEAD would have been born around 1870, I do not have a death date at this time. IV.'s daughter has notes from Aunt WILLE WHITEHEAD BARTLETT that her( father I. V.) wrote down before he died. At the time of the notes his mind was not clear it is very hard to make out the notes left. They ( the family ) recalls the fact that the family had ties back into RIPLEY, MS. Please help with any, thank you for your time. KAREN

Surnames: Whitehead, Vernor, Lackey Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/iJB.2ACE/987.1 Message Board Post: Hi, Karen -- I was surprised to see your Jasper Newton WHITEHEAD. My gg grandfather was a Jasper Newton WHITEHEAD. He was born in 1838 in AL, I think probably in Lauderdale County. He moved to Tippah Co, MS and married there on 4 Dec 1859 to Rebecca Jane VERNOR. They had 14 children. Rebecca died 4 Dec 1903 in Memphis at the home of one of their daughters, Sarah Whitehead LACKEY. Jasper surived her. My Jasper was sheriff of Tippah County at one time. He served in the Civil War, Co. B, O'Connor Rifles. He was a Holiness minister. I don't have Jasper's death date or place. He may have gone to live with one of their children but that's just my speculation. Rebecca died on their 44th wedding anniversary. Here are his children's names, in case you might find a clue in them: Marietta E. "Mollie"; Tommie "Fannie" (female); Ella Nancy; James; Cybillie; Anna Eliza "Annie" (my gg grandmother); Lula Martha "Mattie"'; Jasper Newton; Sarah "Sallie"; William G.; William D. (both Williams were alive at the same time); Nathan; Likergus; Noah Vernor (named for Rebecca's father). It seems these two Jasper Newton WHITEHEADs would be related somehow. What do you think?
