    3. This is something you all might be interested in. When I first got involved in Rootsweb's project it was obvious that the Kentucky GenWeb was the trend setter. Their pages inspired me to beg and convince Rich Holler, the MSGenWeb Coordinator, to give me the poorly developed Tippah County page. I knew it could be as good as the Kentucky pages with a little hard work. I think we have Jeff Murphy to thank for his insight and inspiration. 1. [MSTIPPAH-L] Re: Cordelia Snell Holem
    2. To Whom It May Concern: My mother, Cordelia Snell Holem, died on May 12th. She was born in Lamesa, TX on September 19, 1926 to Robert Bruce Snell (of Mississippi) and Effie May Rogers (of the Oklahoma Territory). She spent much of her life since the mid 60's putting the puzzle pieces of our family together. She found the advent of the computer and internet to be rewarding. She is being cremated and will be placed along side her husband, Russell R. Holem, in El Dorado, Kansas, her parents in Lamesa, and in Scotland where her Snell's originated. She got up and went to bed from her computer. Thank you each for enriching her days and our dinner table conversation with "The Grands". Sincerely, Kathryn Snell Lindsay Oldest Daughter [email protected]

    1. [MSTIPPAH-L] Pictures
    2. When my mother died in 1989 I got some of her pictures that no one else in the family wanted. Since I was into genealogy, even though I didn't know these people, I ended up with several pictures of people I did not know. I am listing the names on the ones that had names. My mother and father were both from Benton Co., MS, but moved to N. Louisiana before I was born. My father was James Anderson Pittman and my mother Lela Josephine Davenport. Some of my relatives were also from Tippah Co, MS. I have pictures of the following people. If these are your relatives please let me know and I will either send you the pictures or copy the pictures and send them to you: (1) Franklin Rainer, (2) Marlin Melton, (3) Walter Rolf I think he is possibly related, my great-grandmother Emily Hitchcock married Charles Wesley Davenport and one of Emily's sisters, Susan Flora Hitchcock married a TJ Rolfe), (4) Bird Hardin and (5) a picture of two men and two women, on the back there is the name of B. D. Faulkenbury and it looks like Pegram. Please respond to: [email protected] if you have any of these people in your family tree. I believe most of these picture were probably made between 1900 and 1920, but I can't be sure of this. Thanks! Dot P.

    1. [MSTIPPAH-L] Holloway Cemetery
    2. Forwarding this on in case it connects to someone on my list that I subscribe to. Hope no one minds. This was in Tues, 8 May, Springfield MO News Leader, p. 5B: Discovery of cemetery halts roadwork--Associated Press-Kansas City-- Construction of a new highway in south Kansas City has been halted by the discovery of a small cemetery dating back to the Civil War era. State officials are anxious to find any descendants of the Holloway family who are bured in the cemetery. If the heirs can't be found, the state will have to get court permission to move the nine graves in the plot, in order to finish a new Missouri 150. Construction workers recently unearthed a marble headstone, dating from 1858, while moving a large section of water pipe. Archaeologists later found another headstone and evidence of seven other graves. The site has not been disturbed further. -------- Please pass this on to other lists. Betty White Santa Barbara, CA

    1. [MSTIPPAH-L] I wanted to warn everyone that Family Discovery is back
    2. Kim Pollard
    3. Hello All, I received a email x2 from some people called "GenTruth". In the body of the email they go on to say Excrept from my email: Inside this issue of In The Spotlight, we are going to discuss the different aspects of Family Discovery. If you have not heard of, or don't understand this service, be sure to read on and learn everything you need to know about their service. Family Discovery offers an online-based genealogical research tool. They provide a unique service that many researchers don't understand. When it comes down to it, they offer a pay for use search engine. At first, this sounds like an absurd place to spend your time. I mean, there are tons of free search engines out there. Why would someone pay for access to one? End excrept. (didn't want to waste your email space) If you haven't received your copy of the junk mail you can email me and I would be happy to send it out to you so you don't become one of the many that have been had by these people. 3. Okay, I normally wouldn't pass this to the list, but there are times when I would love to be able to read those Census images better that are too black, have tape on them, or other stuff. Why does NASA have to have all the good technology for reading ancient text? If you have an interest in Science, Archaeology, or Pompeii take a look at this site. I know it doesn't have much if anything to do with Genealogy, but maybe we can sneak one of the machines out and re-do those census images. http://www.msnbc.com/news/562226.asp?cp1=1#BODY Kim Pollard -- http://www.cableone.net/jamez/family.htm Check out some of the other websites I'm running. http://drew-ms.netfirms.com/ http://www.fortunecity.com/westwood/beautiful/877/ or http://nav.to/Merick

    1. [MSTIPPAH-L] Prather/Hatcher
    2. John / Jo Carolyn Beebe
    3. Thanks to those who have responded to my query re John Prather and Loucinda Hatcher. I'm related to the Prathers of Tippah County and this John has me stumped. I think I have been assigning some of his data to my great-great-grandfather, Josiah Prather. Josiah Prather 5 Nov 1818 Laurens Co SC-12 Nov 1900 Tippah Co Buried:Mt. Zion, Union Co married Lydia Wesson in SC. Their first child was born in 1846 in AL. before they traveled on to Tippah Co. They had 5 more children before Lydia died. In 1860 Josiah and Lydia and family were in house 261. John and Mary are in house 317. The ages of John and Mary match the ages of John and Loucinda buried at Pleasant Hill. I have Josiah's second marriage to Mary Lucinda Hatcher on 18 Aug 1867. Did I copy John's marriage thinking it was Josiah's? In the 1870 census Josiah and Mary Lucinda are listed. In the 1880 census John and Lucinda with Thomas Hatcher are listed. In 1880 Josiah and Lucinda C. are in Union County. Josiah and John were both blacksmiths and I'm sure were related. But how? Jo Carolyn

    2. Kim, my Gober family was in Tippah Co. in 1850 and 60 but we can't find anything about where they came from (we think GA). William Harrison Gober and family are there in 1850, Bushrod Washington Gober and family (mine) were there in 1860. He married the dau of one of Harris' neighbors. We think there has to be a close connection of the two families but we can't find it. Any info would be appreciated. Frances Gober

    1. [MSTIPPAH-L] Any relatives in Ms, Al, Ga, N. C., or Ky? (revised)
    2. Kim Pollard
    3. Hello all, I wanted to revise my offer for look ups in my local library. I will still work on the ones already sent to me as of this afternoon, but how about I work on about 5-6 books for every check out period? Example: I have this current set of books out until April 23, 2001. The current set include: Cemertery and Bible records: A publication of the Mississippi Genealogical Society. The following books are indexed. Vol. 2 for 1955 Vol. 4 for 1957 Vol. 5 for 1958 Vol. 6 for 1959 Vol. 7 for 1960 Vol. 10 for 1963 Each book contains about 200+ pages with a lot of the goodies you would expect in a bible or the cemetery. I will keep you updated when the books change and try to include a little discription of what the books include. Please remember to try to give me as much information as dates, places and names as you can. Afterwhile I will go back to all look ups and I will let you know then. Sincerely, Kim Pollard Drew, Ms. -- Original statement I visited my local library and found that it has a large (for the town of 2,500 people) collection of Genealogical reference books that was donated some time ago. Now, I know some might be outdated, but if you would like to have me look for you just give me as much information as you can. Just a taste of what they have includes (this was all they would let me leave with today) Alabama Notes Vol. 1&2 by England ( indexed) Notable men of Alabama personal and genealogical Vol. 1 & 2 (Indexed) by DuBose Mississippi 1820 Census by Gillis ( indexed) Georgia 1850 Census Index by Jackson and Teeples (indexed) And many more. If you know anyone with this area of search please pass this along. I can't guarantee anything but I will try. One request at a time please. 1. [MSTIPPAH-L] Looking for the missing link Stark-Pollard
    2. Kim Pollard
    3. Hello Listers, I'm new to this list, but I found possible evidecne that the STARK family I found from Tippah co. might be related to my POLLARD family. I found the following on the Mormon church site today. Monroe Randolph Stark b. dec. 4, 1849 Henderson, Tn. From the line of John Stark from Va. m. Odella Ann Stark Dec. 14, 1871 in Tippah co. Willie C. Stark b. abt. 1877 Tippah co. d. Sylacauga, Al. Onnie Ray Stark b. Oct. 13, 1879 Tippah co. Stark b. Feb.21, 1873 died the same day James Malachi Stark b. Mar. 1882 d. 1939 Ross Stark b. Mar. 15,1874 d. 1875 Walter R. Stark b. Jun. 10, 1884 d. Mar. 18, 1960 Lee M. Stark b. Jul. 1886 Here's my question Is the Willie C. Stark listed above the Stark that married into the Pollard family? Some of what I have found on the Pollards puts them in Sylacauga, Enterprise, and Coffee, Co. Alabama. William Stark Pollard I was born about 1900. in either Al.(Coffee Co. or Enterprise ) or Ga. The middle name is believed to come from his mother or grandmother's maiden name. I'm afraid as of yet I really don't have much more to go on other than that. I can tell you that William named his son and his grandson the same name. William married Lawrence Mae Moseley and they lived in Enterprise, Al. and Little Rock, Ark. Can anyone help me find William Stark Pollard's parents? Kim Pollard Drew, Ms.
