    3. It has been pointed out to me that I gave an incorrect URL in my previous message about the 32nd Miss. Inf. muster roll I just put online on the Tippah County Confederate. The correct URL is ( http://www.rootsweb.com/~mscivilw/32ndMS.htm ). Sorry about that! 1. [MSTIPPAH-L] 32nd Miss. Inf. Muster Roll
    2. Walter Cox
    3. I visited the Ripley Library on vacation a couple of weeks ago and copied Tommy Lockhart's muster roll of the 32nd Miss. infantry. I now have it online on The Tippah County Confederate ( http://www.rootsweb.com/~mscivilw.32ndMS.htm ). This is a 233 page book with the service records of all the men! I also have a diary and some other information to put online yet plus several changes others have sent in. Watch this space, a lot is happening right now. More changes than I have time to make at the moment. When it rains it pours! 1. [MSTIPPAH-L] Thanks! (was: Any locals?)
    2. I just want to thank everybody for the information that was sent my way when I asked about researching in Tippah Co. I would have preferred to thank each of you personally, but there were so many letters! As it is, it has taken me a month to write just this one e-mail (for shame!). So thank you all for taking the time to help me out! (Oddly enough, I didn't hear from anyone who actually lives there.) Chandra

    2. What are the names of the kids? I am a Smith but I don't have that much on the surname either. I am off the line of William Lee Smith he was born Oct. 1876 and he died in 1953 in Tippah County. he married Ada Rosa Moore she was born in Nov. of 1882 and died in May of 1968 in Tippah county. So if I have any info I will sure pass it along to you. And if you don't mind if you run across anything on my line please send me a email... thanks.

    2. Melissa McCoy-Bell
    3. Hi everyone, All the gen connect boards are switching over to the ancestry.com server and the format has changed. I'm not exactly sure how this is going to work but in the mean time the links are not working from the county pages. When I regain control of the boards I will change the links to the correct email addresses. In the mean time this is what I have for an addresses; (each link has a drop down menu to take you to specific boards) Tippah http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=localities.northam.usa.states.mississippi.counties.tippah&maxrows=25&dir=next Benton http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/board/an/localities.northam.usa.states.mississippi.counties.benton/25/next Any input you might have on this subject will be appreciated. Do you like the new format? We do have a choice as to whether we want to use ancestry.com. I will need your help making this decision. Thanks so much! Melissa McCoy-Bell

    1. Re: [MSTIPPAH-L] Any Locals?
    2. Melissa McCoy-Bell
    3. Hi Chandra, You need to call the library, the H&G society is located in the library at 662-837-7773. There is a motel in Ripley, the name of it is Briarwood Inn, the phone number is 662-837-0002. Dining in Tippah is pretty limited although there is one or two places that serves good food. If you hang out in North Tippah which it sounds like that's where you are interested in, there is a hotel called Budget Inn ph. 662-223-4021 but it's pretty old. Corinth, Mississippi has the most motels and restaurants it's about 20 miles east of Walnut on hwy 72, closer to Tennessee and Hardeman County. About what's online in Tippah: The cemetery records are incomplete, unfortunately, no african american cemeteries were recorded and the records end in the early 1980's. Anyone buried after that time is not listed unless someone has sent the information to me to record. I'm not familiar with the cemetery you are looking for, I looked in the Tippah County Heritage book and the cemetery is not listed. I hope this helps, Melissa McCoy-Bell ASC MSGEN Special Projects CC Benton and Tippah Counties "[email protected]" wrote: > > Hi, > > Is there anyone here who is local to the Tippah Co. 1. [MSTIPPAH-L] Any Locals?
    2. Hi, Is there anyone here who is local to the Tippah Co. MS/Hardeman Co. TN area? I'd like to make a research trip this summer, and am looking for info about where to stay/eat, my best avenues for research and what preparations I can make. There's really not much info online. My understanding is that there is a library in Ripley with a genealogical section, but there are no motels. And I can't seem to find info on when the Tippah Co. Gen Soc. is open - not even a phone number (just an address). I'm particularly interested in how to find burial info. I know I have DAWSON family buried in Tippah, but they are not in the online listing which is supposed to have *all* the tombstones. A least two should be in the Enon Cemetery - is that easy to find? Is there any way to access burial records? TIA, Chandra

    3. Pretty cool project. WASHINGTON - June 11, 2001 - More than 20,000 community newspapers, some long out of print, have recorded American life since the 17th century and two unique organizations have set the common goal of providing Internet access to this documentation of American heritage. The National Newspaper Association (NNA) and Cold North Wind Corporation signed a letter of intent today to create America's Chronicles SM, an online search engine that accesses the digital archives of America's community newspapers, beginning with the archives of the 3600 NNA member newspapers. The project could eventually result in 500,000,000 pages of original, historical content dating back to the 1600s and will be available online at http://www.americaschronicles.com . The site will be launched at the NNA's 116th Annual Convention and Trade Show in Milwaukee, September 12-15, with access to the first of many digital archives. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
