    3. I replied to the message about J.S. and Julia A. Cox but sent it to the sender instead of the list. J.S. Cox was John Seal Cox son of Caleb Jr. and Elizabeth Hicks Cox. He was married to Julia Ann Keziah Street, daughter of Anderson and Keziah Street. John first marred her sister and she died during or soon after the Civil War. John and Julia had a son John Alonzo born about 1877 and this must have been the son found on the census as John L. John married Trannie Combs in 1898. I seem to recall reading somewhere of a Lee Cox who lived in Ripley around the turn of the century. He was a railroad man I believe. The History of Tippah County mentions Lee Cox once in the index. It is in reference to the R. J. Thurmon house which was later owned by Lee Cox. Perhaps this is the J. W. Lee Cox you are looking for. Speaking of the History, the title is "History of Tippah County, Mississippi; The First Century." It was written by Andrew Brown and is copyrighted and published by the Tippah Co. Historical and Genealogy Society. There are about 150 copies of the book left and the cost is $20. I am told that once all the books are sold they will talk to me about allowing me to put the book online! Trouble is it isn't selling like hotcakes and at the current rate it will be many years before they are all sold. If you are interested in Tippah Co. history please consider buying one. Cox in the previous posting. They are John Seal Cox (1837-1901) and his second wife Julia Ann Kiziah Street (1841-1897). The son you mentioned is John Alonzo Cox, (1879-1959) who married Trannie A. Coombs. The census taker probably wrote his middle initial as L short for 'Lonzo. So I don't think this is the one you are looking for.

Wife, Treasia, born May 1878 in Miss. Children: Essie, dau, November 1895 and Annie, dau, August 1898. In checking the 1880 Tippah County Census for John's parents, the only one even close to his age is a John L. Cox, age 3, living with parents J. S. and Julia A. Cox. I cannot prove this is your John. 3. I have just added a roster of the 2nd Miss. State Cavalry. Co. A was Sol Streets "Citizens Guards" of Tippah County. I also added two articles on Sol Street and a picture of another Confederate, Matthew Jesse Cox. He was a brother of my g grandfather, Joseph Jackson Cox, being sons of Elijah and Celia Horn Cox. I don't recall if I sent a message about having put up rosters of the 1st Btn. Miss. Inf. and the 18th Miss. Cav. but they were added within the last week too. If you are reseaching a Tippah Co. Confederate, stop by and add your name to the researchers list and while you are there, sign the guest book. Contribute a biography or picture. Be sure to use the search engine to find all pages which mentions your surname of interest. You can also search the Tippah County page by selecting it in the pull down menu. The url is http://www.rootsweb.com/~mscivilw I have also added many names to the Soldiers buried in old Tippah County page. This includes Tippah and counties formed from it, mainly Benton and Union Counties. FredGet more from the Web. FREE MSN Explorer download : http://explorer.msn.com

I don't have much Burleson info but do know more about the Rowlands. W.T. Rowland was my great grandfather. He was married first to Mary Jane Williams and had two sons, James Turrentine Rowland, who died in his twenties and my grandfather, Joseph William Rowland. Mary Jane died and W.T married a Maggie Dickie, who died soonafter. He then married Elavanda Joyner and had one other son, Hiram Arthur Rowland. The Nannie Green that you mentioned was Nancy Williams Green. She was Mary Jane's sister and lived with my grandparents until her death. My dad, Joseph William Rowland, Jr. remembers her.
