    3. Greenberry Waldrop and his family were in Catalua, Georgia, Harris County before he left to travel thru Alabama and setteled in DeSota County, Alabama. I read where Greenberry and wife were buried in Eavenson's Cemetery. I wondeer if that is the same Eavenson that was in Harris County the same times as the Waldrops were. (Evenson in the General History of Rehoboth Baptist Church. Rehoboth Baptist Church was first located about one and a quarter miles below Cataula, ON March 10, 1839, the church was in "conference set", The Rev. George Grnberry was the minister. It is thought that the church was in existence before that date, but the other ministers are not knwn. It is thought that the Grandberry family gave four acres of land fo rthe orginal site. The chuch cemtery is there, but the schurch has been moved to Cataula. In the first conference a letter was granted to sister Dinah, " a woman of colour, the property of the Rev. B.B. Buchannan." Mr. V. A. Hill was clerk. In November 17, 1939, the Rev. George G. Granberry , Hiram McCullers, ** Willis Evenson** were delegtes to Columbus, Georgia Association. The following fromed a presbytery , viz: James Perryman, Wm. Henderson, ** G. B. Waldrop" , Cary Willis, Anderson Smith, and Robert Fleming, Brother and Sister McKinley were demissed by letter. I have a partical list of members from the entry April 30. 1842 if anyone is interested in me checking to see if their ancestors might have been in Georgia around the same time as Greenberry Waldrop and his family..before moved to Alabama and Mississippi. I'll be glad to check the page. Greenberry's granddaughter Georgia Ann Elizabeth Waldrop daughter of Joseph Ryan Waldrop....married Thomas Jefferson Higginbottom. There is a Tabitha and Emily Higginbogttom listed. This was 1842 list. Sandra

This is actually the family I'm tracking but need to cover all the ladies in the family which includes Frances and her family. Thanks, and let me know about the Shirleys. I almost feel like I should apologize for that "drunken" Yankee soldier. Frances Perry's sister, Ruth, was my ancestress and they were in Indiana but by the time of the war Ruth was in Iowa. I'm assuming the grandmother was Grandma Perry. I've been in contact with two other ladies working the Perry lines out of Pontotoc Co., MS. One on the Larue line and the other on the Montgomery line. Do you need information on either of those? If so, let me know and as I fill in the blanks I'll send you whatever I find. Sharon Bryant

Surnames: Worthy, Perry, Shirley Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/iJB.2ACE/79.1.1 Message Board Post: Fleming John Worthey was the 2nd child of Greenbury and Elizabeth (Perry) Worthy. Sarah was born Jan1839 and he was born Nov1839. Not to be confused with a John Fleming Worthy who "may" or "may not" have been an uncle. And yes, Elizabeth and James were the youngest two children and were living with Elizabeth's parents, Jeremiah and Frances (Shirley) Perry (shown as Peny on some of the indices for 1860) after GB died, Elizabeth remarried, and then she died in 1857. The family history says that the children, guided by John who was only 16, fled in the middle of the night to their grandparents to escape from the stepparent. However, in 1857 John would have been 17 going on 18 rather than 16. And I'm not certain how her remarriage works with her dying the same year the baby of her first husband was born. I don't know where the other children all ended up, as I can't find them on the 1860 census. John, however, was someplace close to Pontotoc Co because he signed up for the CSA in Apr1861 in Pontotoc Co (Cherry Creek Rifles) and signed the Oath of Allegiance 7Aug1865. He was in Texas by 1868 when he married Virginia Josie "Jo" Carraway. Family lore from several different sources says that he killed a drunk Yankee soldier who was threatening his grandmother at her own home in Pontotoc Co MS, and then fled to Texas to avoid Yankee retribution. Not sure how that fits with him signing the Oath in 1865. His brother Asa allegedly wrote John a letter vowing to join him in TX after his own discharge from the CSA, but never arrived. John never returned to MS.

    3. Ann Johnston-Marshall Waldrup- and all Waldrop Cousins. This is a message from Harold Clements , who has a Joseph R. Waldrop in his line. This comes from the 1860 census, J. R. Waldrop wife,(wife's name is Emily Isabella Smith) four children in Tippah, This J. R. is listed as being born in1823, Jasper , Georgia. He says he has three Greenberrys in his line. The 1860 - He was listed as a Physician. I know of: Greenberry Waldrop (Rev.) papa of Joseph Ryan Waldrop Green Berry Waldrop who was the nephew of Greenberry. the son of Ezekile Waldrop, He lives in Clanton, Alabama, 40 miles North of Montgomery. Near Tuscaloosa , where Ezekile and his family settled. Cross ya'll fingers , that this J. R. will tie in. Besure and read about his run in with law, this Joseph R. Waldrop has...and see how he fits in with our Joseph Ryan Waldrop and his getting in trouble while in Escatawpa, Alabama, Washington. Beating up the Judge of Probate, while still in his KKK sheet....took the Judge's cane and broke it over his head and disfigured his face. the story in the Journal , written by Judge of Probate McCarthy, it was a letter, by the Judge of Probate written to to the Gov. that Waldrop would have killed him, if a man named Moss had not called him off of him. McCarthy couldn't finish his term, because of the incident. I am trying to find out if Joseph R. Waldrop ....is the one that had a run in with the law or several run ins. In the early 1850s he left his DeSoto and family after a run in with the law. Then in 1860 he is in Tippah County....having a run in with the law...the 1866 he shows up in Washington County, having a run in with the law there. If this is the one and same Joseph Ryan Waldrop we now have four wives and nine children. The plot thickens. So far he has a reputation of walking off and leaving his wives with young children. I would assume this was from his confict with the law.?? Nancy Heard is the only wife, whom he married when he was young that was his age. It appears his other wives are quite a few years younger that he and come from families with money or land. My Sara Baxter Waldrop, my great grandmother was born in 1842. Emily Isabella Smith (Tippah) born in 1831. Nancy Heard, born in 1822 Victoria Thomas(Texas) ...I will have to check My dad, once told me his grandpapa rode with the Quantrail. Now, that he is being traced to Mo.....I will check that out. There was a gang in Washington County , Alabama call the Murrell's gang. I thought that was the one daddy was talking about. I am so happy to have Harold on board with us, researsching. He lives not to far from Montgomery, Alabama and I only live 85 miles away in Columbus, Georgia. I am looking forward to one day meeting him and sharing information. He also told me he was 6'4" and his son was 6'6". Joseph Ryan Waldrop was 6'6". If anyone else in interested, I have more information on Greenberry, Ezekiel, Waldrop- Major Waldrup. Benjamin Waldrop had several sons, two spelled their name Waldrop "drop" the other sons spelled their name Waldrop "drup". The brothers have been documented together.. Greenberry and Ezekiel are spelled Waldrop. Major spelled.Waldrop "drup" is another story we will go into later. Would be interesting to know how the changing occured. My guess would be the census taker or the mere swing of the pen. Will keep you all, posted. Love ya'll, Sandra -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Joseph Waldrop Date: Fri, 22 Feb 2002 13:03:59 -0600 From: Harold Clements <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Hi Sandra, I have a Joseph Waldrop in my line with similarity to the one you seek. My data on him is very limited, but if you think he may be the same one, I'll be glad to share what I have on him. Joseph Waldrop - born ~ 1822, Jasper Co., GA married Emily Isabella Smith ~ 1846, AL Two of their children were Isaac (no data) and Elizabeth, who married an Lum Giddings. This Joseph, according to family lore, had a sharp difference of opinion with another gentleman, and they settled the matter with pistols. Duels had been outlawed by the 1850's, so rather than facing trial, Joseph became a fugitive, fleeing Alabama to Mississippi. I think I found this Joseph on the 1880 census. He is listed in the Missouri Precinct of Pike County, Arkansas. The only children listed are a son-in-law (Columbus Giddens) and a John Schwartz (unknown connection). It is said that Joseph was a member of the Alabama Legislature when the duel occurred - and everyone knew it was a "fair fight" - so the law never pursued him very vigorously. Harold Clements Clanton, Alabama
