    2. Thanks for providing this great site. I found my ggg grandfather with 5 land patents between 1838-1843. Would someone please explain to me what these land patents were and how they differ from deeds. On one of them it shows a mutliple patent with another person. What does that mean? Thanks for any help in this regard. Kay

Mericle that is listed on the Alcorn County 1870 census, Kosseth Post Office? He was born about 1846 in Miss. He is married to Sarah A. Alabama Parrish who was born about 1851. They have one child, a daughter named Ann. I think William must have died some time between 1876 and early 1880. In the 1880 Hunt County, Texas census Sarah and her children, Anna, James, John and Giles are living with her brother and family with no sign of William! Can anyone help me? Thanks, LaJoy

    3. Nancy Greer shows up in the 1850 census, but dies before the 1860 census. She is buried in the Antioch cemetery according to "Tippah County Death Notices: 1837-1914" by Don Martini. The online cemetery lists do not show her or her death date. Is there an obit for her, or does anybody know when she died? Thanks. Fred Turner

    3. I'm excited to tell you that we now have the land patent records from the 1830's on line. A special thanks goes to Fred Cox for gathering and providing us with this information. Check out the link: http://www.rootsweb.com/~mstippah/LandPatents.htm A special note about these files: I have DSL, Fred has a cable line and because of this we were unable to test them with a dial up modem. If you have a dial up modem and consistently have problems with the size of these files let me know and I will try to reformat them to be more accessible with your browser and dial up speed. The ones that are huge are M-Mc and C, be patient with these files as they may take a while to download. Hopefully, they will not be so big that they shut down your browser trying to access them. Enjoy! Melissa McCoy-Bell
