I just called the courthouse and the library in Ripley and they tell me the old records are still in the attic and in worse disarray than they were several years ago when I was there. Does anyone know just what kind of records are up there? The person I talked to suggested it was Probate and Divorce records. I am planning a trip that way next week and depending on the records, may spend some time in the attic. Would like to know what I may be getting into before I go. Thanks, Kathlene

I'm looking for Bettie (Elizabeth) and Martha Milum/Milam in the home of their parents? I don't know their parents names. But, Martha and Bettie both married John Murry. Martha was born in Jan of 1867 in Alabama or Missouri. Bettie was older than Martha. Probably born in Mississippi. There was also a brother J.P. Milum/Milam born in 1859 in Alabama. By 1880 Bettie was dead. Martha was already married to Bettie's husband and J.P. was in their home. They are on the 1880 census. John and Bettie married in Ripley, Tippah Co MS in 1873. Census Place: Jackson, Little River, Arkansas Source: FHL Film 1254049 National Archives Film T9-0049 Page 113C I hope that an 1870 census will give me the parent's names for Bettie, Martha, and J.P.
I would be most grateful if someone who has access to this 1845 census could look for a Marley McMillen - might be M.W. or W.M. or even Marle. McMillen could be spelled any number of ways. He was in the 1850 census with a young wife and new baby but I believe he had a previous wife and perhaps even another group of older children. Thanks for any help. Catherine

Marley W. and Mary A. Gunnell McMillen were in the 1850 Tippah Co.,MS census with their young baby, John D. They were in the 1860 census in Arkansas Co.,AR but I have lost them after that. Their children all turned up in Lawrence Co.,AR later - 1880's - but I am wondering if they returned to Tippah Co. after the mid-1860's. Perhaps Marley and Mary stayed in MS, perhaps even in another county? I would appreciate anything you have to offer. Thanks a million. Catherine Gillespie Marx
