SMITH COUNTY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY ROUTE 1, BOX 4B-1 RALEIGH, MS 39153 September 7, 2000 Dear Swap Meet 2000 Participant: This letter is to personally thank you for your participation in the recent SWAP MEET 2000 here in Raleigh, Mississippi. Participant feedback told us that even though this was our first such event that we were on the right track in making this a meaningful and worthwhile event. If you have comments and suggestions that we can take as we start planning for SWAP MEET 2001, we still welcome them. Indeed, plans are now underway for SWAP MEET 2001 to be held here in Raleigh on Saturday, April 21, 2001, and we hope you will mark this date on your calendar and plan to be here. We think next year's event will be even bigger and better as we learned much from our first project. One thing that we definitely believe is that we have an opportunity to make this a statewide event with participants invited with family roots through-out Mississippi. We plan to contact other county societies and organizations to seek help in spreading the word about the Swap Meet and what it has to offer those researching family lines in Mississippi. Family files for next year's event are being accepted now. We encourage those who were here this year to add to or update their files. One thing that we did learn this year was that participants did not submit nearly enough of their individual family line files. What we would like is for each participant to submit either an ancestral or descendent file on each family surname REGARDLESS whether they passed through the state, region, or county. Several comments back told us that files should be collected and made available as many researchers were looking at distant connections as well as local connections, and the more files available, the better the chances of such a connection. So, submit those individual family surname files. We do ask that due to space and copying limitations, that files be limited to 25 - 30 pages per family. Also, be sure to put name and address of contact on each page of the file so that one looking at file can make direct contact. The roll of the Swap Meet is not one of collector or repository but more like a connector for people with common family lines. Again, thanks for making SWAP MEET 2000 a success. We believe it to be the beginning of many more such annual events where researchers can come together from across the state and other states to trace family lines. We do want your comments and suggestions along with additional and/or updated family files.
