Posted on: Simpson Co. Ms Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ms/Simpson/162 Surname: Tullos, Robinson ------------------------- I am responding in a email message to you.
A detailed account of the killing of Chester Tullos, written by Eugene Tullos, an attorney at Raleigh, MS, was printed in one of the newspapers about a year ago. A copy was sent to me but I've mislaid or lost it. It ran in the Smith County Reformer (Raleigh) or the Clarion-Ledger (Jackson), I forget which. I believe he was employed by the State Pentitentiary at Parchman, MS, as an assistant warden, but my memory is faulty and I could be in error. I was nine years old when this killing took place. Chester Tullos was a very courageous man, and I suspect that his disdain or contempt for special precautions when around potentially dangerous men may have been his undoing. Harold Hopkins
The story was in The Smith County Reformer, published in Raleigh. There may have also been a story in the Clarion-Ledger that I didn't see. You can contact The Reformer for old copies. George Stuart. Gordon, It's been a while. Anyway I do have both Rebecca Pernecy WILLIAMSON and Archibald HUGHES they are my GGGG-grandparents. I don't know who Rebecca parents are. I did some looking in SC for William WILLIAMSON and I found so many I couldn't sort them out easily so I'd dropped it for the time being. I plan on pursuing it later. Do you know for sure that Archibald was born in SC? I have him born in either NC or SC, didn't know for sure. I do have him dying in Magee, Simpson County, MS. Did you know that I moved to MD? Hi Mike and others! I've been interested in the discussion about the WILLIAMSON family in Simpson County with origins in SC. I have Rebecca WILLIAMSON, b. abt 1809 in SC who married Archibald HUGHES (b. abt 1803 in SC) and they migrated to Simpson County. Archibald died 30 May 1853 in Simpson County. I have been led to believe that Rebecca's father was William Williamson about whom I know nothing. I am aware of the William Williamson in the census for Simpson County and have wondered if he was related to Rebecca. Rebecca and Archibald were the parents of Bridgett Ann HUGHES who married Joseph LANG. Have any of you encountered Rebecca or Archibald?
