I've always looked at the 1895 Atlas of Rankin and Star not being shown at all but Cherry was near so I rushed in and thought the two was the same and maybe the RR changed the name as in Steen Creek/Florence. Relooking at the atlas (online) and doing the triangleation thing off Thomasville Cato Braxton it appears that Cherry was about 2 miles NE of Star and a couple miles due south of Thomasville. which put in the middle of nowhere. All that being compared to a modern county map. I think there might be a modern day gravel pit about where Cherry is shown in 1895. http://www.livgenmi.com/1895/MS/County/rankin.htm I may also need correcting on the the King and Mountain Creek area. I have quite a few Dear ancestors buried at Mt Creek and both my Stevens g-grandparents. Star not being on the 1895 map, could the RR have named their new stop or wood yard, etc Star after 1895?. I think the Gulf & Ship Island was put through there not long after that. I've posted this to the forum for further discussions,, Star Geography 101 All the Dears mentioned are first / second cousins, Uncle Simp was my great uncle,,younger brother to my grandfather Will Dear died 1968,, both buried Rexford jerry
