I believe my great-grandmother, Matilda Mitcham, is the M. L. Mitcham listed in the 1880 census at the asylum. Her husband, William L. Mitcham, divorced her in 1874 and I think may have had her committed prior to that. He married again in 1875. I would really appreciate knowing if she is buried at the old Asylum Cemetery at the UMMC Campus in Jackson, the date of her death and any other records that may be extant. I contacted Whitfield some time ago and was told that if there were records that I could only get the date of her admittance and release but no medical information. I am not sure of why that is held private after 72 years. I was able to get her medical record from the Georgia Archives regarding her committment at Milledgeville in 1860. They migrated to Mississippi after the War. I don't know what contact, if any, she had with her children after the divorce and hospitalization. If she is buried there and there is a tombstone I would like to get pictures of it. I have a relative who can do that for me when he goes through Jackson on business. I would like to plan another trip to Jackson to do further research if possible, too. But that will have to wait for a couple of months because of other committments right now. Thanks for any help or suggestions. Iras Smith Mobile, AL
