    3. The State Hospital was located in Hinds County, Jackson, untill soemtimes up into the 1900s before relocating the Whitfield Location in Rankin County. Around 1880 it would have been at the present location of the University Mississippi Med Center, 2200 N State St. in Jackson. There is an old Asylum Cemetery still on the UMMC Campus fenced and under lock and key. I work there and can gain access to the cemetery if you have a name you would like researched. I have been told that there are many unmarked graves in the cemetery. This is probably a long shot beings there is a vast difference in dates but there is a 1930 State Asylum Census on the Hinds County Genweb site. Keep in mind this census would have been taken at the old site where UMMC is now. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mshinds2/1930asylumindex.html Others out there, correct me if I'm wrong on some of this, I'm shooting from the hip. good luck jerry ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, October 09, 2006 2:27 AM Subject: Re: [MSRANKIN] Whitfield State Hospital > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: WOODS, PEEPLES > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/XJB.2ACE/605.2 > > Message Board Post: > > Hi, > I am looking for information on a brother of my Great Grandfather that might have been admitted to Whitfield in the late 1800's, maybe 1870 or so.
