My ancestor is Addison Baugh - and none of the names you mentioned sound familiar to me. I'm sorry about that too. My Baughs lived in Northern CA from about 1860-something on. Let me know if you have any further queries. And Thank you.

My grandfather's sister stated that Ella referred to James and Elizabeth as her 'uncle' and 'aunt,' but our family is uncertain as to whether this implied a blood kinship. I have spent many years searching, but the first trace that I can find of Ella is in the 1860 census record which you mentioned. I would love to learn more about the Hancock family and would be glad to pass along what little I have gleaned relating to James and Elizabeth. Perhaps we can tie some loose threads together through an exchange of information -- I hope so! Many thanks, Holly

Don't know if Rankin County did or not, but Mississippi didn't require them until about 1912. If you can get to the MS Archives in Jackson or have someone that can, its possible that they might have the Steen's Creek Times on micro film. I am still trying to find a picture of Briar Hill School, sometimes incorrectly called Monterey School, which was located on a strip of land between Briar Hill Baptist Church and Monterey UM Church on Hwy 469 in Rankin County. thanks Connie Cherry
Did Rankin County keep death certificates in 1900? I also would like to know if it is possible to get a copy of my gg Grandfather Samuel Williams obituary from The Steens Creek Times in March of 1900?
As far at the church still in existence, I do not know, but the Rankin County, MS Cementery Records 1824-1980 shows located on Brandon Rd, North of Piney Woods School. Piney Woods School is located on Hwy 49 South of Jackson, MS. If you will use a map, starting at the City of Jackson, find hwy 49 south to Piney Woods there you will see a road heading north connecting Hwy 49 with Hwy 18. and the Cementery should be in that general area. At the present there are two recorded graves, PHILLIPS, ALEXANDER NO MARKER PHILLIPS,REBECCA ROSS W/O ALEXANDER PHILLIPS D/O HUGH T. AND REBECCA WARREN ROSS BORN 1844 No Marker. Someperson working with the recording of this site, knew who was buried there and this information. Hope this will help you. Jeryl Denson Hurley Volunteer with the MSGEN Rankin Co. To get to the cemetery, if you're coming south on US 49, after you go throught THE traffic light at Star, take the next road to the Left. That will be Levi Cooper Rd. It winds around about two miles and Tee's into Henry Cannon Rd. Take a right and go about a half a mile (maybe a little less) and the cemetery and the chruch place should be on your left. If you have a GPS the coordinates are N 32 05 15 W 090 00 12
