Greenbury WORTHY and Elizabeth PERRY married 1838 in SC - she would have only been 17 since she was born 1821 Worthy children born in South Carolina: Sarah A b Jan1839 Fleming John b 28Nov1839 Chester Co SC (have death cert) Jackson b 1841 Levi A b 1842 in Alabama: Asa A b 1845 May P b 1847 in Mississippi: Melem M b 1849 (also seen it spelled Milens) Elizabeth b 1853 (All but John were on the Tippah Co MS 1850 census) born in Tennessee: James M b 1857 After GB died in 1856/57, Elizabeth remarried but apprently she died shortly afterward, still in 1857. The children escaped their stepfather and ran away to Pontotoc Co to live with their grandparents, Jeremiah and Frances PERRY. The youngest children, Elizabeth and James, appear on the 1860 Pontotoc Co census with grandparents. But other than info below on John, I haven't found any of the other children. Fleming John WORTHY joined the CSA in Cherry Creek, Pontotoc Co and signed his Oath of Allegiance in Pontotoc Co after the Civil War ended. However, family stories from more than one source say that John killed a Yankee soldier who was drunk and threatening his grandmother with a sword while riding his horse on on her front porch (or in her house depending on the version). Fearing retribution from the Yankees, John fled to Texas and never returned to MS. Never saw anyone of his brothers or sisters again, although Asa was supposed to have written to him, vowing that as soon as he got out of the CSA he would join John in Texas, but he never arrived. I haven't found any records that indicate Asa was ever in the CSA. Nor have I found any of the other children.
