    3. I have been trying to get information on Joseph Hester from Pontotoc Co. for several years. No one seems to know anything. It is almost as if he feel off the face of the earth. I'm going to write what I know and see if it triggers anything in any of your minds. Joseph was born in St. Clair Co, Alabama in 1827. He moved with his parents to Pontotoc Co in 1843. I THINK he lived in the Coonewah community. Where ever that is. He married Mary Ann Dunn in 1849; N. E. Foster in 1865, M. F. Harris in 1874; Josephine McKinney in 1888. He served in the Civil War in the 41st Mississippi Infantry. He served as county treasurer 1891-1895. Then served on the Board of Supervisors from 1895 until his death Nov. 15, 1901. He lived in the town of Pontotoc the last 10 years of his life and is buried in the Pontotoc City Cemetery. He belonged to the Methodist church. These are his children: Henry, Charles, Georgann E., Charity W.(listed in later census as Willie), Joseph A., Lula M., Smith, Adolphus, Eva. Willie and Eva both married John Henry Oglesby who was Sheriff of Lee Co. in the 1890- 1896. If any of this sounds familiar or if any of you have suggestions as to how I can learn more, please contact me. Thanks in advance. Carolyn Oglesby

    3. Sorry, don't know anything about your Hesters (although I have some in current day Ala),but Coonewar is located in Lee Co.,Ms., SW of Tupelo. In 1895, the popl. was 14 and they had a post office, but didn't have a RR or an express office. The site http://www.livgenmi.com/1895.htm shows where it was located in 1895. Good luck, Dawn "Heinz 57 AMERICAN and PROUD of it" ----- Original Message ----- From: "Carolyn Oglesby" <coglesby@washington.lib.ms.us> To: <MSPONTOT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, April 26, 2002 10:26 AM Subject: [MSPONTOT] HESTER > I have been trying to get information on Joseph Hester from Pontotoc Co. > for several years.
