My ggrandfather was Thomas Arendal, born in Pontotoc Co., Mississippi in 1830. His father was Joel Arendal, who was born in Spartanburg District, SC in 1791. Joel bought land from the US Government in Mississippi and Alabama in the 1830's, and the family eventually made its way to Central Texas. I do not have the name of Joel's wife. I know there are several variations on the spelling, but ARENDAL is the spelling used by my branch of the family. Others are ARENDALE, ARENDELL, and of course, ARNOLD. Any information is appreciated. Thanks. Fred Peebles

My Grandfather, Andrew Carrol Lee, Married Sally Belle Galloway in Pontooc County Sept. 7, 1896. I believe that he was born the son of Carrol Lee in Blount County, AL in 1869, but I have been unable to find either the Father or the son in the 1870 Census. I know that Carrol had three brothers living in the area - John Lawson Lee and William Mathias Lee in Lafayette County, and James Paul Lee Calhoun County. I believe that he moved to the area shortly after Andrew Carrol was born, but died before the 1880 Census. My Grandfather was listed in the 1880 Census living in The first supervisors district of Lafayette County in the household of a widow named Emily Lee, along with two sisters, Rebecca and Lorena, and a halfbrother, Thomas, that my mother remembered from her childhood. My mother did not mention the two younger sisters, Margaret and Elizabeth, also in that household. I would welcome any further information on my Lee family, and would be happy to share what I have. Andrew Carrol Lee was found living in Pontotoc County in the 1900 and 1920 censuses.
Researching RANEY HOOKER RUCKER J.R.M. Raney married Nancy Elizabeth Hooker in December, 1876 in Pontotoc Co. I can not find the parents of J.R.M. Raney. I have found a Sarah Raney with 2 sons John and James in the 1860 census living with Alexander Rucker and his wife Delila. In the 1870 census Sarah was listed as Sarah Boyd with her two Raney sons again living with Alexander Rucker(must be her parents). Did find records that she had married a John Boyd who was killed in Civil War. I think that James Raney may be my relation and I am trying to find out the name of Sarah's first husband. If you know anything about the Rucker or Raney family, I would love to hear from you. Oh, J.R.M. Raney was my ggrandfather and I have the line down from him. Virgie Buschmann in Houston, TX

I have Colemans from this area. Some of them are buried in the old Bethel Cemetery in Union County. One, "Simp" Coleman was a deputy sheriff in Union County. He was murdered in the line of duty. Most of them settled in Pontotoc County. I have traced them back to TN, Itawamba Co, MS and to Pontotoc County. Hope these are yours.
