There is a ChesterVILLE in W. Lee County. I don't think there is a ChesterFIELD. Maybe I'm wrong about that, but I do know that Chesterville is W. of Belden, near the Pontotoc County line. I may have been wrong about the Maxey Cemetery being in Pontotoc County --- maybe it's Lee instead. Sorry.!!!! I grew up in Belden (Lee Co) (East of Pontotoc County) and have lived in Chickasaw County (South of Pontotoc County) since 1950, so I may have gotten it in the wrong county. Georgia. There is a Chesterfield in Lee CO. (Tupelo) and I have seen a Maxey cemetery listed in Lee CO also. Rubyg
There are several Maxeys in both the Macedonia and Pisgah Cemeteries in Union County. The southern half or so of Union Co. was part of Pontotoc County prior to 1870. paul ----- Original Message ----- From: <Georgiamhh@aol.com> To: <MSPONTOT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, April 27, 2002 9:39 PM Subject: Re: [MSPONTOT] Where is Maxey Cemetery located > Don't think so, because I went to the Archives in Jackson, MS and > found Maxey. A couple of people have mentioned FIELDS recently. I have in my records a Matilda King who married John Franklin Fields, Sr. Both of these were born in 1825 in Alabama. They were married and listed in the 1850 Pontotoc Co. census along with (I think) two children. I have a total of eight children listed for them. If this fits either of your lines, I can provide more information. Kathryn Peeples
Don't think so, because I went to the Archives in Jackson, MS and found Maxey. I assumed it was in Pontotoc. I do know Mary C. Tarver - Mrs. Thomas Shelton Jr., was living with her only daughter, Rebecca - Mrs. Henderson Wade, Jr., after Thomas had died. Thanks for your reply, Georgia Hornbuckle
I've heard of a Maxey Cemetery up there somewhere but am not sure where it is. Hopefully someone can tell you. I am looking for the parents of the following known siblings: *James Thomas (Jim) Harrison b. 8 Apr. 1872 d. 21 Jan. 1942 bd. Sping Hill Cem. Lafayette Co. *Annie Harrison (marriage record to Abb White has her named listed as Nannie Harrison) b. abt 1874 d. abt. 1927 She was married a second time abt 1900 to a ------ Curry and had a daughter who died very young. She and Abb White had James Doff White who was raised primarily by his Uncle Jim Harrison and Vester White who married Charlie Aron. Vester apparently lived with her father Abb White and his second wife Martha J. Allen. *Estelle Harrison b. 14 Mar. 1880 and d. 6 Aug. 1939. She was married to a Shaw and had sons Clyde and Clint Shaw. She married a Self and had a son Jesse (who supposedly was killed out west by a lawman). She married Tip Ransom and had some children--daughters I think. Estelle and Tip are buried in Spring Hill Cem. in Lafayette Co. *Will W. Harrison b. 2 Feb. 1882 d. 23 Mar. 1974 He is buried in Spring Hill Cem. in Lafayette Co. According to my mother, Uncle Will Harrison's father died before he was born. I have a picture of Estelle, Clyde and Clint Shaw and Grandma Harrison. I think her name may have been Nancy--but not sure. I found a Thomas Harrison who married Nancy E. Johnson on 15 Jan. 1871 in Pontotoc Co. Could this possibly be the parents of the people named above? I will greatly appreciate any help that anyone can give in helping me identify my Harrison g-g-grandparents. Annice
Ronnie: Thank you for your information about the Campground Cemetery in Calhoun Co. My Wood family were members of the Campground Methodist Church on Campground Road in Pontotoc County which is off Hwy 15. On the opposite end of Campground Road from Hwy 15 was my gggndfather's land so I hoped that since his land was only one mile from the Campground Cemetery that is where his grave would be. Within his estate were charges for stones for a marker and drayage to the cemetery. 1856 to 2000 is a long time for a marker to stand but I did find several Wood graves in Campground Cemetery. Since your Montgomery Family are founding members of the church if you have not read "Story of Pontotoc," which includes a history of Campground Methodist Church, published in 1931 by Pontotoc Progress, you may be interested to locate a copy. Information to the list: Having been to the Pontotoc Public Library and the grand old Pontotoc Court House several times I can only reiterate what others have said. The people are extremely helpful and the MS Room in the Library is outstanding. Many thanks, Ronnie and Pontotoc. Doris June (Wood) Fulghum Fulghum64@aol.com
