    2. Donna S. Boyd
    3. Annice, Do you have any more information on this Allen line? I have been trying to find the family of my James Harold Allen for years. Maybe Martha could be his sister? Donna Boyd >She and Abb White had James Doff White who was raised primarily by his Uncle Jim Harrison and Vester White who married Charlie Aron. Vester apparently lived with her father Abb White and his second wife Martha J. ALLEN.<

    1. [MSPONTOT] Roll Call- Hugh M. Rodgers
    2. Ludean Kidd
    3. Nadine, I don't know what the M. stands for in Hugh M. Rodgers. The information that I have is that he is the son of John W. Rodgers and Elizabeth Sanders Rodgers. Another child of the above couple was Sarah A. Rodgers born in 1839, don't know where, and she married a McGary, so it seems odd that the McGary name is in your info and also in mine. My info came to me in 1969 from relatives still alive at that time, but now dead. That is all I have to go on until I find out other information. Alfred A. Rodgers married Ann Dunn first then Julia Harris. Saphronie married a Bassinger. I didn't hear who Hugh M. married. Hope this helps. The children I mention are from John and Elizabeth Rodgers. My great grandfather first married a Emma or Emily Sanders, then Adaline Harrison. His name was William J. Rodgers. Ludean

    3. Hi, have been out of pocket for the weekend, but just caught the tail end of this conversation. I looked in the GNIS site and found out that there are 2 Maxey Cemeteries. One is located in Lee Co.,Ms. and the other is located in Itawamba Co.,Ms. If you will go to the GNIS site, http://geonames.usgs.gov/ it will give you the latitude and longitude numbers and then you should also be able to bring up a map that will show you appx. where they are located. Don't know if this is exactly what you are looking for,etc..,but hope it will be of some help.lol Another idea is to see if the genealogy societies in these areas have cemetery maps. I live in Union Co.,Ar and one of the couples in the genealogy society went around every Saturday and Sunday afternoon until they had "located" every cemetery in Union Co. and had marked them on a General Highway Map for Union Co. The guy who did this with his wife was telling me about it and he said it was done as a project for the 1836 - 1986 State Sesquicentennial. They sent it to a map maker? or somewhere like that and had it printed up to sell. For the most part, all of the cemeteries were already known because they had been surveyed, but I think they did find a couple of unknowns,etc...The map shows all of the roads in Union Co.,the towns and the population on some of them, the townships are outlined, the cemeteries are marked and if they are in combination with a church, then the church is also marked(but not otherwise). The Section,Range, and Township info is marked off and the best part is that on the bottom of the page, they listed all of the cemeteries in alphabetical order and put the S,R,T info,so that you can find the cemetery on the map.The map can also be used for other purposes.ha They sell the map at the library in El Dorado,Union Co.,AR for about $3.50. The point to all of this is that someone might want to check and see if one of these counties or any other co. that you are interested in might have done something like this. Just a thought ! lol Dawn "Heinz 57 AMERICAN and PROUD of it" ----- Original Message ----- From: <Georgiamhh@aol.com> To: <MSPONTOT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, April 28, 2002 11:26 AM Subject: Re: [MSPONTOT] Where is Maxey Cemetery located > Received an email this morning and they said Maxey was located in Union > County as that part had been Pontotoc at one time. > > Thanks to everyone who was so concerned about the location. 3. Chancery is for the Land Record, Probate, Wills, ETC Circuit is for Marriage Records.....Please forgive......but I just noticed that they were backwards.....But you covered it really well.......

    2. In the Court House there are two offices: Circuit Court Office and Chancery Court Office. Chancery has marriage records for Pontotoc county listed in ledgers by dates. There is one section missing(apprx 1875) due to a fire. List any marriages you find and then see the the actual marriage license books to find the marriage license. You can copy the license on the office copier. The office ladies are very helpful and will show you how. The Circuit Court has a room for land sales and research. They will show you the will index, 3X5 box, also a will ledger and how to find recorded land sales. The back wall is completely filled with old court and will records and at first is intimidating. There is also a list of old court dockets. The Court House also has a land office. They looked up my ggggrandfather's land from 1850 and drew a plat with directions to the land. Your best bet may be the library. The Mississippi Room and the library personnel are outstanding. They will show you where everything is. As stated previously, be sure to see the Pontotoc Pioneer Publications published by Hazel Boss Neet. There is a master list which will refer you to the correct Pioneer Publications. I can't say enough good things about these publications if you are interested in the folks who settled Pontotoc County. There is a cemetery book that lists every grave in Pontotoc County. By all means take your time and see the good research offered by the library. There are numerous books on the shelves with good info. Some of the books are filed by state. There are publications from the DAR. I know I have omitted much but this should get you started. June Wood Fulghum Fulghum64@aol.com
