Richard, I also have these 3 surnames in my family in Pontotoc. Starting with Lemuel Cater Roye b. May 24, 1823 d. July 15, 1882. Lemuel is burried in Campground Cemetery in Pontotoc County. Lemuel was my GGGrandfather thru his first wife Harriett Johnston. Although I'm not directly descended from Stegall or Anderson, I have many in my database as they married into alot of my lines. My database can be seen at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hollow/6680/index.html Let me know if you find a match and I'll be happy to share my information with you. Anita Warren-Hendrix Surnames include: MATTHEWS/MATHEWS, TULLY, ROYE, JOHNSTON, SEGREST, JAMISON, CALHOUN, CHRISTOPHER
GRUBBS PANNELL PARNELL HILL DARLING TUTOR STEWART YARBOROUGH possibly: LUKE HENSON I have seen others researching some of these names and am very interest in exchanging information with you. Nadine Grubbs Smith Researching: Ball, Bunch, Burton, Calber / Calder, Daniel(s), Darling, Dunn, Fowler, Gibson, Grubbs, Hackney, Hartgrove, Henson, Herring, Hill, Key, Luke, Maples, Martin, Pannell, Parnell, Power(s), Ro(d)gers, Smith, Styles, Tippler, Thacker, Toliver, Yewell
Wow Ludean, our lines seem so similar. My Hugh M. (supposedly McGary) RO(D)GERS married Serena HARTGROVE in 1820 in AL. They had a daughter named Sarah Ann RO(D)GERS who married William P. HERRING in Itawamba Co., MS in the 1850s after they all migrated to MS, from AL. In their later years, they were found in Lee Co., MS, where they lived and died. I know parts of Itawamba Co., Pontotoc Co., Union Co., and Lee Co. were at one time parts of each other. As for the similarities in your Alfred A. RODGERS who married Ann DUNN and my lines......The above mentioned William P. HERRING and Sarah Ann RO(D)GERS HERRING had (among other children) a son named Henderson HERRING who married Ella LUKE and had 3 sons, one of whom was Alfred Jackson HERRING who married Frances (Fannie) Jane DUNN, daughter of George David DUNN and Mary Ann MARTIN (1) MOBLEY, (2) DUNN. He did have a second wife but she was a BRADLEY. Is your John W. RODGERS, John Wesley RO(D)GERS? The relatives who shared the RO(D)GERS information with you but are now deceased, were they from Lee Co., MS? Nadine Grubbs Smith Researching: Ball, Bunch, Burton, Calber / Calder, Daniel(s), Darling, Dunn, Fowler, Gibson, Grubbs, Hackney, Hartgrove, Henson, Herring, Hill, Key, Luke, Maples, Martin, Pannell, Parnell, Power(s), Ro(d)gers, Smith, Styles, Tippler, Thacker, Toliver, Yewell ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ludean Kidd" <ludean@steward-net.com> To: <MSPONTOT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, April 28, 2002 10:13 PM Subject: [MSPONTOT] Roll Call- Hugh M. Rodgers born in 1839, don't know where, and she married a McGary, so it seems odd that the McGary name is in your info and also in mine. My info came to me in 1969 from relatives still alive at that time, but now dead. Alfred A. Rodgers married Ann Dunn first then Julia Harris. Saphronie married a Bassinger. I didn't hear who Hugh M. married. The children I mention are from John and Elizabeth Rodgers. My great grandfather first married a Emma or Emily Sanders, then Adaline Harrison. His name was William J. Rodgers. > > Ludean
Your Mary is actually about the same age as Mary POTTER who married Brittain Rice WEBB on 12 Jan 1836 in Crawford Co., GA. They moved to AL by the 1840 census and on to Pontotoc Co. where she died 13 Apr 1846. She is buried in Cherry Creek Cemetery. They had two daughters: Susan (b. abt 1837) and Margaret A./Sarah? (b. abt. 1840). Susan supposedly married W.Y. WEBB ( I have not been able to confirm this) and Margaret/Sarah married Sampson C. WEBB (also unconfirmed except by census records that seem to match). If my data is correct, Sampson C. & Margaret had several children: Ira McD (b. ca. 1865), Charles F. (b. ca 1868), Jesse B. (b. ca 1870), William P. (b. ca 1872), John F. ? (b. ca 1874), S.C., Jr., (b. ca 1876), and Mary E. (b. ca. 1878). I'm looking for descendants of any of these. Mary POTTER was the daughter of James POTTER & Margaret PARKER and the sister of my gr gr grandpa Rev. John POTTER of Cherokee/Etowah Co. AL. Patti
Just have to say a short word of thanks for running this roll call. I'll admit it does get long sometimes and maybe there may be a shorter way to do it. I have found several contacts that may possibly be in the lines I'm researching. Am checking them out. Thanks again for running it. Libba
Thanks..my POTTER line in Pontotoc had a PARKER connection early.
I am a Digest subscriber and thanks to our new leader, it is easier to read. We still have a number on the list who are sending back the entire message they are answering but hopefully that will get better. Even the digest is difficult to read with a one line answer to 40 lines of text that is sent along with it. I just have one family that settled in Pontotoc. I normally don't send a blanket thank you note for help received but since everyone is so touchy right now, I felt we need something positive said for the List in general. Many people responded to my plea for help in finding the Old Monroe Cemetery in Pontotoc and that is what this list is all about. Helping each other! Not only was I sent directions but also a map! The best part has been reading about many of you who have family members buried there or have memories going there as a child. When I do get to visit this cemetery it will have a different meaning now. Thank you all for responding and making this list a great one. Gail Flowe Honeycutt
This really is a neat and informative page.....Really enjoying it! Thanks Peggy
Ludean Was your William J. Rodgers born about 1838? Was he Elizabeth's youngest child? Do you have any idea when John W. Rodgers died? Could she have married John Austin after John W. Rodgers died? Lots of questions. Thanks for any answers. Pat
Looking for a Betsy Strickland that married a John or Jonathan White? Any connection?
The best way to resolve the problem of too many emails is to subscribe to the list in digest form. Instead of getting 81 individual emails, they will be nicely divided into 3 or 4. You can then open the email and a listing is there of the individual emails. Just open the ones that you may be interested in. Saves a lot of time and trouble. Hope this helps. Pat, My line supposedly starts with Thomas Dillard in Spotsylvania County, VA, goes through William, who went to Chatham Co., N.C. His sons, Willis and Osborne went to Tenn. Willis supposedly had sons Owen and Orren. Although, I have quite a lot of information on these older people, what of this lineage I can document starts with Owen Dillard who married Sarah Ewing in Hardeman County, TN in 1828. They had one child - Orren/Owen Wayne Dillard. O.W. Dillard, as he used his initial all the time, had one son, John Wesley Dillard. John Wesly is my grandfather. Sarah Ewing is the daughter of LaDovesy Dillard. LaDovesy is said to be the daughter of Osborne Dillard. LaDovesy and Sarah are named in the will of James Ewing. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Ferguson Leweling When the "coffee session" is over, I would dearly love to get back as a member. I have WEBTV and limited "bytes" as compared to a computer. The suggestion written earlier of putting names at the top left hand corner was a good one. Look above.....I did my part! It is with regret that I must ask that you remove my name, at least until these endless mailings come to a halt. Respectfully, Rosemary Ferguson Robinson farobinson@webtv.net

I've been reading at a site that is new to me and thought if there is anyone else who is a newbie they might like it.
