    3. The Pontotoc County Cemetery book does not show any Pogues buried in any cemetery. He died in late 1800s so he may not have had a stone or it may not be there anymore. The book does list several AKERS. The Pontotoc County History book references AKERS in several articles. There are not any POGUEs referenced in the history book. Royce

    3. Christine, I notice that you are researching Allens in Pontotoc County. I am, too, and I hope you are finally the breakthrough that I need. My Allen was James Harold Allen, 1842-1880. As far as I can determine, he only would have been in MS a short time, possibly in the late 1860's. I am searching for any records that might reveal his parents, as well as a record of his marriage to Jeffersonia Crittenden. Do any of those names ring a bell? Best regards, Donna S. Boyd

    1. [MSPONTOT-L] John H. Owen's Child???????
    2. JohnLyon7654
    3. I have an 1870 Pontotoc Co., MS image #233 listing a Mary OWEN 28 F W who I feel is John Hardeman OWEN's widow. He died 3/2/1864, a Civil War casualty. I believe she is Mary Read married 1855 to J.H. OWEN. She is sandwiched between Bracket OWEN (?her fa-in-law), William OWEN (?her bro-in-law), and Glen OWEN (?her bro-in-law). She is the only MARY any of the brother's married. She is listed with 4 children 1)Unity 12 F W 2)Benjamin 7 M W 3)John 6 M W 4) ?Orlena 3 F W My questions are---Is #4 child the child of JH Owen (if so, then his death date is wrong)---Did Mary take on someone else's child (the child is listed as an Owen under Mary)------ Is this child the result of a tryst?--- Could the child's age have been written down wrong?------Or anything else someone can venture? Any J.H. Owen descendants out there to answer this? Patricia Walker Lyon

    3. Since Pontotoc County is just north of Chickasaw County, there are lots of connections between the two. Our Chickasaw Historical & Genealogical Society is preparing a pictorial directory of Chickasaw County. This could include lots of Pontotoc Countians and we would appreciate pictures from you. These must be related to Chickasaw County. Thanks to you for allowing me to squeeze this in on your website. I have Rodgers/Rogers connections in Pontotoc County and have recently started researching this family line. Would appreciate input from any of you. They were in the NE area of Pontotoc county, near Sherman. 2. Royce, Could you check the Pontotoc Cemetary book for McNutt---I am particularly looking for John McNutt(my gg grandfather) who died in Pontotoc Co. in 1857. He had a son Thomas McNutt who died about the same time (at least he was deceased by the time the estate was settled in mid 1857). Thank you very much. Marion M. 3. I am desparately trying to find my Pontotoc Walkers. I was just given a clue as to a cousin of my grandfather ( who was born, lived and is buried in Pontotoc). Her name was Sleetye WALKER and she married an OWEN (another relative of mine). Sleetye may have had an older sister named Georgia WALKER who married John BARLOW who was a barber in Pontotoc for many years. Anyone with any more info? Thank-you, Patricia Walker Lyon

    3. I am resending this from yesterday as I did not recieve a missive on my end and fear it was released into the netherworld. I had to re-subscribe to Pontotoc-L. If the list is getting double messages from me, please let me know. Hello-All, I am just starting on WINDHAM research and I am not even sure of a relation except by word of mouth. I was told of an OWEN-PANNELL-WINDHAM connection in Pontotoc Co., MS specifically the Ecru area. I was told the WINDHAM relative was a judge. I have a listing of "Dr. and Mrs. J.H. WINDHAM" in my father's baby book from 1925. I have found in the 1920 Pontotoc Co., MS Census (Other townships, beat 98) a listing I believe is the JH WINDHAM I seek. James H. WINDHAM---head-----44yrs----physician Winona? M.?--------------wife-------45yrs Montye M.?----------------dau--------19yrs Cora L.?---------------------dau---------14yrs Leone? C.-------------------son--------11yrs I am wondering if Montye WINDHAM is the "Montye" that married my grandmother's brother Walter J. OWEN (son of Hardiman Bracket OWEN). I have pictures of my grandmother (who was also born in 1900) and "Aunt Montye" (OWEN) with my father as a baby. Montye and Walter OWEN had James OWEN and Keith OWEN. I was also told that Walter J. OWEN owned a dry-goods store. If anyone can shed light as to the relations I would be appreciative. Thank-you,Patricia Walker Lyon WALKER-OWEN-HARTLEY-PANNELL........

    3. You may already know this, but Union and Tippah Counties were created out of Pontotoc. I've seen a listing for the Union County cemetaries and I think I've seen one for Tippah as well. I don't have copies nearby, this was in the Greenwood, MS library. Anyway, it may be that your ancestors are now in a different county and this may provide further avenues for your exploration. 3. To the Ruples. The Pontotoc co Historical society printed a cemetery listing 2-3 years ago. It was a combination of all available cemetery listings previously printed. It is available from the Pontotoc Co Library, 111 North Main St, Pontotoc MS 38863-2103 tel 662-489-3960. I will be glad to look up 2 or three names. But please not a lot of names at one time. The book is alphabetical according to persons name. There is a code by each name indicating the cemetery they are in. There is no listing by cemetery in this book. Royce
