Family lore says she was Indian (Cherokee or Chocktaw). I have a photograph of a woman that might be her which looks very Native American. Her daughter also looked Indian, and family members recall my great-grandfather calling Minnie Bell "my Indian Princess." Some of the other Dosses also married Stewart women, and all those lines have family oral traditions of Indian blood in the family. Mary Jane Stewart Doss lived from about 1870 to 1900 in Terrill, Kaufman Co, TX, and the last 20 years of her life in Ft Worth, TX. Several other Bells, Stewarts, and Dosses came to the Kaufman area about the same time.
