    2. Hello Susan and everyone, Is that Texaco station in Macon? I think it's the one I went to last summer. The chicken was good. The food was good period. Your description of the location of the cemetery is near a body of water. My father told me once, the water was a beautiful clear with no pollution and how they used to catch fish there. He said, it was something to see.

    1. [MSNOXUBE] MORE INFO ON MOHEIGAN CEM.
    2. SUSAN CARD VOYLES
    3. For those who do not know the Moheigan Cem is not overrun with briars and debris. And yes I have pictures of the Cemetery and I have been there many times. Someone mention to me in one of the emails that we need to preserve the records of the people buried there. The info about the cemetery has been written down and put in book form and I have a copy some where in my house. Tombstone Inscriptions of Noxubee County or Deaths of Noxubee County. Anyway, the info is in the book. To the people who have requested info, I will try to find the book, if not when I am at the cemetery in April I will take pictures of the tombstones for you and send them to you privately, since root policy is no attachment files. By the way, I have a book in front of me titled "Dancing Rabbit - A Book about People, Places and things in Noxubee County" by Macon Beacon author Broox Sledge (Dancing Rabbit Treaty - is another story for another day, if you are not familiar with the Dancing Rabbit Treaty of Noxubee County) Broox Sledge is a well known writer, he had sort of a genealogical / historical column for many year in the town newspaper the Macon Beacon. I last saw him in 1990 and he wrote a column about my father and me. His directions in the book for the Moheigan Cem is: "About two miles northeast of Shuqualak, (Shoog-a-lot), a half mile east of Hwy 45 on a chalk bluff overlooking a bend of the Noxubee River. I can not remember is it is the Marhoner Road. When you are driving down 45, there is no sign that points to the cemetery. And it is on a dirt road. If anybody that is reading this is interested in find this cemetery, and there in Noxubee County the weekend of April 22, I will more than happy to show them the cemetery, tell them where you can stay in Noxubee Co, there is only 2 hotels to choose from. One restaurant that serves snails, no McDonalds and the best food in town is a Texaco gas station, wonderful chicken and macaroni and cheese. Susan Card Voyles

    3. Hi Susan and all, With a reunion coming up, this sounds like a wonderful time to record the names in the Mohican Cemetery. Especially so if there is any danger of it flooding and being lost. With the help of volunteers at your reunion, it could be divided into sections, since "Many hands make light work". You might like to see the site at http://www.rootsweb.com/~cemetery/ They can be of great help. It would be so sad to let it all slip away, unattended. 3. Hello Brenda and Jean Hyde, I am very familiar with the Moheigan Cemetery Cemetery. it is the oldest in the county. It is down a dirt road app. 3 miles. from of 45. It has not been abandoned per say that it is never tended to. There is a Card Family Reunion every year, the next one is April 22. The grass is cut in the cemetery and the parking area (which is dirt and leaves) is picked up from twigs. Picture yourself standing in front of a long rectangle (long being east - west). When you first go into the cemetery (by the way it is petition off by a wooden log and wire fence) the Card family is buried on the immediate right which is my grandparents and my great grandparents. There are tombstones at the far right and a lot on the far left. Jean was it you that ask me to look for some of your family. Anyway I am going back for the last time, I take my father over there for the reunion, and his health is failing. Let me know if I can help. By the way, my line is Card, Bird/Byrd, Prisock/Prysock and Kinard.
