    1. [MSNOXUBE] Noxubee families: Reed and McMillan
    2. Linda Nichols
    3. Am new to this list and am enjoying the conversation. We have a Samuel McMillan that was married to a Lucinda in the 1850, 1860, and 1870 Noxubee County Census. Besides their children, they had a Jincy/Gensie/Janetta Reed living with them. Samuel in 1870 apparently had been kicked out of the house and was living next door to Lucinda. With him was a Sarah (born Scotalnad) and Anna (born Alabama) McClain (the spelling of this name is in question). Please, if anyone recognizes this family, let me know. We visited the library in in Macon, MS this last year. They had just moved all of their genealogy records and we tried to sort through them, but it was quite tedious and did not find anything. (Exception, my Aunt Grace McMillan found some wonderful leads on her Gores) Am from Del Norte County, CA. I have access to a lot of Oregon and California records and do website hosting for 3 counties for USGenWeb. So, if I can help someone out here, let me know.......

The power of attorney was shared by her brother Richard Jones who lived in Shelby Co., TN. Their stepmother had died circa 1843 so the estate settlement could go forward. She had married John White in 1816 in Halifax Co., VA.I do not know when they moved to MS. I would like to know who her children were and the parents of her husband. Particularly I would like to know the relationship of Washington Jones to her. I've thought perhaps an uncle, but would like some proof.

    3. Sharon: In your cemetery listings for Gavins.....these stand out for me: Mary Ann GAVIN wife of Charles S. GAVIN 22 Dec 1855 - 4 Apr 1924 Charles S. GAVIN 19 May 1849 - 1 Feb 1903 Gabrielle E. GAVIN son of CS and MA GAVIN 14 Apr 1879 - 1879 Lizzie GAVIN daughter of CS and MA GAVIN 19 Feb 1877 - 28 Dec 1880 I believe Mary Ann (wife of Charles S.) GAVIN was Mary Ann NEVES, daughter of William M. NEVES and Elizabeth Elvira COLE who moved from Madison Co., Alabama to Noxubee Co.between 1860-1870. I have their marriage date as 24 February 1876 (Bondsman: T.J. Stokes; marriage performed by H.T. Wilson.) (from Noxubee Co. Marriages Vol. II, p.31. Orig. book & page: 4-66. I am researching MARY ANN NEVES, not the Gavin line, but information I have from another Gavin researcher says Charles Smith Gavin was a farmer b. 14 May 1846; married 4 February 1876 (note discrepancy in marriage date) to Mary Ann Neeves, b. 22 Dec. 1855, and that they had 5 children: Lizzie, Gabrielle Lee, Walter P., Della F., & Maud O. Same Gavin researcher indicates that Charles Smith Gavin was the son of John Edward Gavin, b. 15 September 1804 and Mary Gordon b. 28 Novemeber 1811 and that C.S. Gavin had a brother Robert L. Gavin who was this researcher's great-grandfather. In your Gavin research, does this tally? Do you have any further information on Mary Ann Neves Gavin? Teresa Neaves

    3. Posted on: Noxubee County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ms/Noxubee/10384 Surname: Eichelberger, Haggard, Whitehead, Fancher ------------------------- Although I am usually a lurker on the Noxubee List, I felt that a reply is due on the Eichelberger, Haggard, and Whitehead surnames. These folks lived on the edges of Noxubee and Winston Counties. They are often found in both counties. There are numerous black Eichelberger families left in Winston today, but the older white Eichelbergers moved on. They were from South Carolina and left many records in Winston. There are numerous Haggards in Winston County today, as well as Whiteheads. These families live, for the most part, in the eastern portion of Winston County next to Noxubee. The person looking for Fanchers - they left Noxubee and settled in Northern part of Attala County, MS. There was a Dr. Fancher, several years ago, of Georgia (I think) who published a comprehensive genealogy on the Fanchers. Hope this answers some questions. Louis Taunton

    3. Posted on: Noxubee County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ms/Noxubee/10382 Surname: ------------------------- Yellow Creek Cemetery and Church's location is in Winston County. The road in front of the Church is in Noxubee. People from both counties are buried there. Church Services are held on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month. The first week of April has been designated as cleanup, fixup week at Yellow Creek. Men are coming, some staying at a nearby Deer Camp. They are going to tear out the floor of the Church and see about the foundation, etc. If time and personnel are available, other jobs around the Church and Cemetery are going to be tackled. Volunteers are welcome. Food, cooked and uncooked, is being solicited by the women of the Church and Community to feed the men at the Deer Camp. A very worth while project. Yellow Creek Church (although the minutes have not been found) started in the either the late 1840s or early 1850s. The first burials in the Cemetery are from 1850s. The cemetery is in The Cemeteries of Winston County, pages 398-401. Directions: From Louisville city Limits sign on Highway 14 go east for 6.8 miles. Turn left on Yellow Creek Road at Easley's Grocery. Continue for 7.5 miles and turn left on an unmarked dirt road. Go .3 of a mile and the Church is on the left and the cemetery is behind it. Hope this helps. Louis Taunton kinfindr@telepak.net
