    2. Hello Shunqualak, MS is outside of Macon, MS on Highway45. Highway 45 goes right thru the town. It was once a cotton growing town in it hey days. I was told the reason it is called Shunqualak because the dirt is sweet. The Native American called the place Shunqualak. The population now is about 500. The center of town has been closed fro many years. You can still see the E. F Nunn business building and one of the cotton warehouse.

    1. [MSNOXUBE] Re: Glass Family
    2. I believe possibly around the 1800's and later. I don't have a whole lot to go on at this point I just know that my fathers name is Hugh Burnside and his fathers name is (was, now) Charlie Burnside( he died in June of this year) and his mothers name could have possibly been Era Glass. I have yet to speak to my father since his dad passed away, so as soon as he returns I can ask more questions and I will definately get back to you. Thank you for your help and patience. Sincerely, Era

    1. [MSNOXUBE] Re: Glass Family
    2. I have located my ancestors in Carroll Co.,Ms in 1850.If my information is correct, are your Glass ancestors related to those from Carroll Co.,Ms? I have Robert Glass no wife listed. Children listed are James,Samuel, Elizabeth, Nancy, Mary, and William H. I found Anna Glass that died July,1850 and hope she is the wife of Robert. Samuel Glass I hope is the great-great grandfather I am looking to find. Samuel married Alvada Whatley and eventually ended in Nevada County,Arkansas. They are my great-great grandparents. I located the family of Milton Whatlen in the same census as the Robert Glass family. That much seems to fit the facts as I have them. If you can help me please reply to me direct. Thanks, Shirla

    1. [MSNOXUBE] A LONG narrative, Hudson/Haynes
    2. E. Annette Rose
    3. Excuse me, but I don't really have anyone to tell about this latest "find". Besides, I/we still need a bit of help from some of you Hudson/Haynes researchers. The 1870 census of Noxubee county, MS. listed two John B. Hudson men, at two different locations (one in Shuqualak, the other "in Macon") each with a wife, one with "Rebecca", the other, with "Mary R.", and both with a daughter, one with "Mary", the other with "Mary M." and both daughters was aged one year. The difference in the age of the men...one as b. 1835 in GA., the other b. "about" 1842, also in GA. One, the man born 1835, is living in the household of Elizabeth Hudson. The other is living next door to Henry A. Hudson. (Henry is a nephew of Elizabeth, actually a double nephew....) [?Elizabeth has a son, John Henry Greer Hudson, who was in the asylum in Jackson, Ms in 1855.......also born 1835.] [I still question as to the possibility that this IS her son listed in her household?] Marriage records of Noxubee county show a John B. Hudson marrying Rebecca Haynes Feb of 1868. [Now begs the question which of these two fit this marriage?] An obit appears in 1874: Mrs. Rebecca Hudson, daughter of Benj. F. Haynes, died in Cleburne Texas 23 May....... 1880 census, Johnson county, Texas: John B. Hudson is listed with a wife named "Jinney" and a daughter, Mamie, age 11. And now, the rest of the story: Shari Guess contacted me a short while back in regards to "how can I find" my great grandmother, Mary M. Hudson, who was born in Shuqualak, 1869? A quick check of my records gave me the two "Mary's" born abt 1869. I relayed this information, and we started a fast and furious exchange. Let's shorten this down: John B. Hudson, born 1841, was the son of John Hudson, who was the son of Robert Hudson....a brother to MY Frederick Hutson/Hudson, whose son, John Hudson married Elizabeth Beasley. Shari knew that her mother had notes on the family along with a family bible "somewhere" but did not expect that she would ever find them, as they were in "storage" along with years of stuff collected by her parents. Shari knew enough to make some statements that caused me to begin to put things together, but then....she came up with that bible! John Brother Hudson had a brother, William Jefferson Hudson, who had made the entries in this bible. The very last page of entries stated: My grandfather's name, Robert Hudson. My grandmother's name, Candice Crow(e). When this last piece was relayed to me, I almost cried. I had those names. Not Candis' maiden name, but at least her first name. (Not positive on the spelling of that first name.) 1815........the Hudson siblings sold their father's land in Lunenburg county, VA. ... at that time, Robert, Ward, and Nathaniel H. Smith (sister Elizabeth's husband) authorized Frederick Hudson to act on their behalf. Robert was living in Jasper county, GA. 1817....Robert's wife, Candis, signed away her dowry rights while residing in Jasper county, GA. 1820 census, Japer county, GA..Robert Hudson is listed with three sons, all under the age 10. [One of those was "John", the father of John B. and William J. Hudson] Now.........Shari states that her grandmother had said that a 3rd great uncle Isaac had owned a plantation in Shuqualak. Does this mean that the Isaac Hudson who married Elizabeth Hudson in 1850 was also a son of this Robert Hudson? I bet it does, now I gotta find that proof! My family has passed down that Elizabeth had married as her second husband, her deceased husband's cousin. This would fit. >From my research, I have found that this Isaac is reported to be the grandfather of Hudson Strode. Hudson Strode wrote that his grandfather Hudson owned a large plantation and had an export business, with the plantation being in Arkansas and the export business across the State line in Ills. He also wrote that his grandmother had "snagged as her second husband, the General Hudson of Georgia." Then, he told of how his grandfather had lost thousands of dollars overnight on the stock exchange and died shortly thereafter. Unfortunately, the dates were not relayed to me...another located this information from a book written by Hudson Strode, a well known and respected college professor at the University of Alabama. In the bible, it is written that one of the sisters of John B. Hudson, Mary Candice Hudson married John Clark, and had died in Ciro, Ills. , 1866. [Was she/they living with her uncle Isaac at that time?] Isaac and Elizabeth Hudson do not appear on the 1860 census of Noxubee county. It is known that they "separated", could they have been living in/at the place of business or the plantation in Arkansas??? Could she have "come home" to Noxubee where she is found on the 1870 census? Or, as Isaac is referred to as "General", were they in GA.? >From the Haynes side of this: John B. Hudson married Rebecca (Mary R.) Haynes. She died in childbirth of a son, Isaac, who also died at that time, 1874. John B. Hudson married a second time, this time to Virginia Haynes (Jinnie), his sister-in-law. They had a son, Roy Hudson, who is mentioned in the obit of "Mary M. Hudson" as surviving her and living in Oklahoma. As the obit in Macon, Ms. stated "Mrs. Rebecca Hudson, daughter of Benj. F. Haynes..." We have a name for her father, but, again, which Benj. F. Haynes? Was he the son of Henry, son of Phelps, son of John, son of Henry? I need more help on this Haynes side. Anyone out there got some info. which will help clear this one up? Shari and I have a ways to go to exchange "all" our information. She states she has photos of Hudsons....can't wait to see those! ear

    2. My gr-great-grandfather was Ebenezer Robertson Glass, and he married Rebecca Beavers Pratt. Their daughter was Mary Jane (Mollie) Glass who married John Hinah Dew in Noxubee County, Mississippi. They were parents of my grandmother, Nettie Mary Beavers Dew who married Edward Lawrence Hunter in Texas. Mary Jane Glass's sister, Eugenia, also married a Dew from the same family as John Hinah, Sidney Adolphus. Ebenezer was born in Newberry Co., S.C. before his family moved to Shuqualak, Noxubee County, Mississippi. He served in Company G, First Mississippi, in the War Between the States as did another relative, Absalom Pratt Glass who was born in Bibb County, Alabama.

    3. Since we have heard nothing official from the USGenWeb Board? Received the following and below it is the information that I hunted down that you will need to fill out the form: This is a comment from one of the WI mailing lists: FAIR TRADE COMMISSION Many have expressed concern, outrage, and frustration at the FamilyDiscovery.com site. MyFamily.com, including RootsWeb and Ancestry, is currently investigating these concerns, and will respond as appropriate under current Fair Use Copyright and Truth in Advertising laws. In the meantime, users who have their own concerns or conflicts with this site can file their own complaint directly with the Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) Bureau of Consumer Protection by visiting <https://www.ftc.gov/ftc/complaint.htm>. 1. [MSNOXUBE] UPDATE on the discontinuing of the boards
    2. E. Annette Rose
    3. The primary reason that I have changed the manner in which we will post ON OUR WEB PAGE is that the web master and associate then has control over what appears on these pages, and we do not have to wade thru "query" on top of "query", which could and does contain objectionable material which we can't delete (at this time). By linking, as I have done, you will still have access to those "boards", except now it one BIG board. The URL will be updated but by clicking on what is now the GenConnect link, you will be taken to the "New Boards." I do believe that more places one posts things, the more likely they are to be found by others interested in the same subject/family/person? It's just that the company could "for whatever reason" pull the plug and we, as Noxubee county researchers, will have lost all our postings and clues that appear those queries. By maintaining the queries manually, we will forever have them. There is already two "pages" of queries that we have had up since I got involved here in 1997. We went to the automated, but kept active the pages where those queries were posted, for others to check out. That is what all this is about. Until something arises, our web page will remain with the Rootsweb server, as they have promised that it "will always be free to USGenWeb." Presently, a "bug", I hope it is a bug, exists that will not display email addresses on the postings that got "moved" over the weekend. We "administrators" lost control as we knew it, and as hard as we try, we don't all understand "all " of the ramifications of this move?? Just thought I should update you. Have a great Sunday, thank the Lord for your blessings, and hug your family. God Bless, ear

    3. There ought to be a way to get up a class action against the theft of our data. Is there a web site where this problem is discussed and cussed? Reply to troy_harper@bigfoot.com NOTE: If you email a Bigfoot user and get a bounce-back stating, "554 Access Denied from IP. See www.orbs.com for more information," then you should contact your ISP or your sending server administrator and THEY must contact ORBS (Open Relay Behavior Modification System) to get themselves removed from the ORBS list. ORBS tracks SMTP servers known to allow third-party relay (Open Relays). Spammers can connect to them from anywhere and do their dirty work. ===================================================== ----- Original Message ----- From: "E.
