    3. ----- Original Message ----- From: Ccurbfarm2@aol.com To: MSNOXUBEE-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, July 25, 2001 7:30 AM Subject: Jefferson & Wiley In checking what Noxubee County Historical Publications, i have, I find no Jefferson or Wiley. In checking a 4 county phone book, I did find Jefferson's still living in Neshoba and Winston Counties. I suggest that you write the Circuit Clerk, Noxubee County, 505 S. Jefferson St., Macon, Ms. 39341 to check marriage records for you, since you know the exact date. Also, you might check into the web sites of Kemper, Winston and Neshoba Counties, which you can do from the Noxubee site. Kemper has 1837, 1840 and 1850 census, patents, enumeration of Educable children 1890 and 1896, personal family web sites, cemetery records, etc. and you can put in a name and it will give you sites that might include that name. 2. Hi I am in search of the Richard Sanders who marr Victoria Lantrum in nuxobee ms 1873. My line is lantrum and that name is quite scarce. I also noted that you have your line coming from Perry co AL. My Lantrum was seen as LANTRON on a census and there are LANTRON'S in AL as well, I have suspicions they could be be connected to my Lantrum. Though speculative I wonder might this be a big circle of families. I would lvoe to find out who this lantrum/sanders family is. Thanks for any help if at all possible. Good luck to you kathy

    2. I too am interested in this family, you seem to have more information than I do on the Pressley's. There are sooo many David Pressley's in the family, but I think I am looking for one of David Pressley and Ann Edmiston's sons, David Pressley who was married to Elizabeth Wilson. I believe they had a daughter Mary Ann. Does any of this sound familiar.I would love to share what info I have on this line with you. Thanks for any help.

    1. [MSNOXUBE] Hydes and Kellys in Noxubee circa 1845
    2. Kathryn Martinez
    3. Hi. My gggrandparents were married in Noxubee about 1844. They were Eaton D. Hyde and Emily Jane Kelly (poss. Kelley). I cannot seem to find out anything before this date. I know that Eaton D. Hyde was born in Georgia in 1824. Emily Jane Kelly was born in Alabama about 1826 or so. I cannot figure out how to find her on the 1840 census with the Kelly and the Kelley families that are listed. I am only guessing that she belonged to one of them. It is possible that her family came after the 1840 census. Are there any documents available which list the family members from the 1840 census? Thanks. Kathy Hyde Martinez Brooksville, FL

    3. Thanks to our good friend from Noxubee county for this piece of info: >From the TOMBSTONE INSCRIPTIONS OF NOXUBEE COUNTY, I find James Gillespie - native of Georgia 30 Sept. 1708 - 17 Oct. 1837. Noxubee County was organized in December 1834. >From DANCING RABBIT, BY Broox Sledge. The Original Land Purchasers of Noxubee County: Region Nine, Township 13 North, Range 17 East. Section 3. All of the section and some land in 4. James Gillespie, whose body occupies the oldest grave in the Mohegan Cemetery, his death date listed as 1837. Section 9. William Hurst and James Gillespie. The Noxubee County Tax Assessment Roll, 1848 (the oldest tax roll on file) Township 13, Range 17, Estate of James Gillespie I did not find a J. O. Gillespie. Hope this one is the same. Mohegan Bluff where the cemetery is located is a few miles NE of present town of Shuqualak, Ms. When Noxubee County was settled, there were little towns or settlement all along the river about 5 miles apart. Believed to be oldest trading post and church built in county. This cemetery is all that is left and it is still being used today by the Card family, a family member having been buried there last year. Janelle Floore Craig, Brooksville, Ms. There could be other information that I overlooked. Under the 1840 census I found a C. Glimpse

    1. [MSNOXUBE] SHUQUALAK
    2. Hello everyone, Please do not email me about the misspelling of the town Shuqualak in my last reply to a post. It was an innocent mistake, before I noticed it, it was to late to correct. Yes, there are lumber companies in the town. I only saw one company at the time I was there. I remember the glove company. Some of my relatives used to work for the company. The grocery stores are in Macon. The Piggy Wiggy is still there in Macon. Highway 45 was a two lanes road in Shuqualak and now it is a four lanes highway thru the town. After the treaty of the Dancing Rabbitt, many from the east came to Mississippi for the land offered by the Federal government. Many roads are named after some the earlier settlers. I dare not to name some of them. In fear I might get more email for incorrect spelling.LOL http://www.ajfroggie.com/roadpics/ms-ends/ms39.htm http://www.ajfroggie.com/roadpics/ms145.htm
