    3. I'm curious about the Hunter family connection because my grandfather was Edward Lawrence Hunter who married Nettie Mary Beavers Dew (called Mamie). Mamie's mother was Mary Jane Glass/Dew (called Mollie) who married John Hinah Dew in Noxubee County, Mississippi in the 1870s. Later the Dews moved to Texas where the Hunters were already living. Hunter is sort of a common name, but I think Joseph Love Hunter (father of Edward Lawrence Hunter) came to Texas from Arkansas, but I'm not sure. Rosemary Grant

    3. I have a question. Another researcher told me that the Macon Public Library in Noxubee County has quite a collection on the Hunter families. I am a descendant of this family, although I live in southern California. One of my colleagues has a daughter who attends a university in the Macon area. Do any of you folks familiar with the Macon Public Library know if the library allows visitors to make copies of material. If so I will offer to pay my friend's daughter to copy the information on the Hunter family. Many thanks. Mollie

    3. Hi Michelle, There are four Foote families listed in the 1850 Census for Noxubee. Do you need a look-up? Also see the 1840 and 1860 censuses as listed on the Noxubee County website at http://www.rootsweb.com/~longstrt/noxubee.html Regards, John New Orleans -------------------- "Michelle Hood" <dollbaby02@msn.com> wrote: >Hello, I am researching my husband's Foote family of Noxubee County, Mississippi. I am not sure if Henry Foote ever left Macon, MS or not. According to the 1880 Census, his wife's name was Julia and children were: William (his gg grandfather), Mary, Susie, George and Joe. William was born May 1865 and married Isabelle (maiden name unknown). Henry's birthplace is Virginia abt 1835. >Any info or links greatly appreciated. >Michelle > > -- __________________________________________________________________ Your favorite stores, helpful shopping tools and great gift ideas. 3. The Macon Beacon probably had stories. My mother, Augusta Eichelberger, was born in Noxubee County (Mashoulaville) in 1908 and she grew up hearing stories about an awesome tornado that struck the area in the late 1800's. Her father, John Albert Eichelberger, was a young man at the time and he told her that after the storm, one side of their barn was full of pine needles that were stuck straight in. I remember another story about a person who was impaled by some flying object, but I'm fuzzy on the details. Charlotte Herridge G.F. I'm particularly interested in locating news accounts--if any still exist--for my great-great grandmother Sarah Alice Blackwell, then about 10 or 12 years old, was swept up the wind and thrown quite some distance, landing against a box car and amazingly uninjured. And info, pointers, or ideas out there?
