    1. [MSNEWTON] JONES/Circa 1830-1865
    2. Lori Stevens
    3. Hi, I am looking for the JONES family from Newton County, MS. Family story is that family came from the community of Old Hickory. Celia (Sellie) Elizabeth Jones was born 1863/64, supposedly in Newton County. Henry Newton Jones was born April 11, 1855 Jonathan (John) Mathias Jones was born in Scott County on February 18, 1852. We do not have their father's name, but their Mother was Martha Jones (nee MATHIS) according to family records. John's obituary indicates that he left Scott Co. by 1865 for Arkansas, spending 3 years there, and then on to Louisiana where he lived and died. I have located Martha (Jones) House in the 1880 census in Arkansas. Thank you! Lori

    1. [MSNEWTON] Armstrong Smith and family and Elihu Smith descendants
    2. Bobbye Davis
    3. I am searching for information on Armstrong Smith and wife Susan Brazella/Brazilla Erial or Enal who came from Sumter Co. Al. by 1850 to Newton Co. I have them up to 1870. Two children were listed Wright born abt. 1838 in Al. He is not in the home in 1870. Is he married or deceased? Armstrong and Brazella had a daughter/Sally/Sarah born abt. 1845. She is not in the home in 1870 either. Is she married or deceased. Are there any descendants of this family? I believe through circumstantial evidence beginning in Sumter Co. Al. that Armstrong is a brother to my gg grand father Elihu Smith . Some of Elihu's descendants include the lines of Rigdon ,Stephens,Nelson ,Richardson,Pierce and others in the Newton Co. area. Some migrated to Ar. and married into the Barnett family. One of Elihu's daughters ,Mary Jane, married Franklin Dansby (my great uncle on my Dansby line).Franklin's first wife was Mary Elizabeth Threat. Another daughter Elizabeth, known as aunt Betty married George Leroy Nelson. George Nelson's first wife was Millery,(Milvery,Melley) Ellen Howington. I have hit a dead end on Armstrong and hoping to find some one who knows about this family. bobbye@microsped.com

    1. Re: [MSNEWTON] Rosa Alonzo Brown, Newton County, Miss., 1920
    2. Vern, You asked about an online data base to check for Rosa Alonzo Brown's property. I do not know of one, but the Newton County Historical and Genealogical Society, located in Decatur, MS, are acting as "custodians" of some of the old Newton County court records. We have only recently moved into our quarters and taken on this responsibility. We are staffed with volunteer members of NCHGS, but if there is something that we can help you with, we will be glad to do so for a small charge. If you live near enough to Decatur, please pay us a visit. Our telephone number is 601-635-2350 or you can email me at bh330plms@aol.com. Bess, Secretary of NCHGS

    2. I'm trying to find out where my great-grandfather Rosa's farm was in 1920. I'm sure he paid the usual and normal property taxes and such. Is there an online database of any kind that I might search to determine the legal property description and therefore it's location? As far as I can tell, everyone between us in the tree has passed so I have no living source for any information like this. Thanks in advance for any help you provide. Vern
