    1. Re: [MSNEWTON] Cleveland, Collins, Walters, Smith & Allied Lines
    2. Hi Grace, My ggrandfather was Jim Thomas LANGDON (1890-1954). He married Ola REEVES (1899-1936). Their daughter, Annie (1915-1995) married Henton CLEVELAND (1908-1997), son of James R CLEVELAND (1865-1937) and Susan MCELHENNEY (1879-1933). I have no clue about Mark Twain's line. Unfortunately, my grandmother passed away before I had an interest in genealogy and I didn't write anything down. I have a little info on the Cleveland and McElhenney lines but none on the Langdon and Reeves lines. Does any of that fit with yours? Dona

George Washington Beatty (their son) (b. 11 Feb. 1838, d. 23 Nov. 1914) and Catherine D. Walker (b. 28 Nov.1844, d. 18 June 1933) are bur. in the Masonic cem. in Newton. Her father may have been William Walker but I have no documentation on that or any other information on her. Their son was William Warren Beatty (my grandfather). He married Aime Mitcham from Pelahatchie. They are buried in Laurel with some of their children. If anyone has info on Gray and Hannah and George and Catherine I would like to hear from them. I have a good bit of material, census, children, burials, obits, etc. but would like to know if there are any Beattys doing research that would like to share. I would like to know more about the Walker connection, too. Iras Fearn Smith Mobile, AL

    2. Bev, I am one of the grandchildren of Frances(Frank) Scott and Emma McMullan. Smith I have the following info but do not have the time to get it exact. You may already have it anyway. Frank b.1870 d.1950 in Newton, Ms. Emma b.1874 d.1964 in Decatur. They had eight children that lived to 64+ yrs. Six males and two females. All have passed. Frank and Emma are buried in the Rock Branch Cemetery close to Union, Ms. with at least three other children that died at birth or within the first two years. My father was their second to youngest living children. On my mother's side they were Carletons from Decatur. I too am probably related to many in Newton county.......Wells, Freeman, Laird etc. I have traced the Carletons back to England circa 1700s but have not worked on the Smith side since my wife and I do not have children and tracing seems more of a waste if there is no one to enjoy or leave it to. Hope you have a nice day. Regards Omar Smith

    2. In a message dated 7/6/2005 1:53:34 A.M. Central Standard Time, Jfrbol@aol.com writes: Mary, further checking of the 1900 census gave me: Victoria Lainge, Head, 62, WD, 7 children total, 2 living, PA, PA, NY Walter, son, 34, S, MS Duncan, son, 43,S, LA Walter married by 1906, when his son Wm R was born, per the 1910 census I sent you earlier. Dunken, a Widower, was living with with Walter and their mother on the 1910. Their mother had a total of 7 children, and only 2 were living in 1900, Walter and Duncan, so Robert age 9 on the 1870 Ohio census must have died between 1870-1900. He could have had children, if he lived past 1880, but where? Ohio? Or were they back in MS by then? I haven't found the family on the 1880 census yet. And we know there was very little of the 1890 census that wasn't burned in an accidental fire in the 1920s. Fran Bolton Mary, I finally found the family on the 1880 census, Jasper Co MS, listed as Lang: Duncan Lang, 55, b Scotland, was sick with what looks like Meningitis? Victoria, 40, b PA Duncan Jr.( Looks like could be spelled Dunson?) 22, b LA RB, son, 19 b MS WS, son, 15, b MS NB, dau, 3, b MS CS, son, 2 mo, b. MS This gives you 5 of the 7 children Victoria had, with just Walter and Duncan living in 1900. There is a 12 yr span between WS, and NB, so that is possibly when the other 2 children were born. There was just the older 3 boys on the 1870 census, so that narrows it down to those 2 children likely being born between 1870-1880. Have you found graves? It may be interesting to know that a Yellow Fever Epidemic occurred in 1878, killing thousands in the area. One report said that one town of 350 had 330 cases of the fever. I hope this is interesting and helpful, Fran Bolton
