    3. Okay, this was a hard decison, there are "many" of my ancestors that I would LOVE to invite to my house for Thanksgiving, every year...I would roll out the red carpet!! As family is very important to me. I wouask lots of questions, as I "love" knowing as much about a person as possible without getting too personal... Alright, I had to narrow it down to Wiley Young, for several reasons. One being he lived to witness the marriage of his son Arthur - and I would ask him who he married, and all pertinent questions...He more than likely was around at the time of the birth of his grandson Anthony S. Young, and grandaughter Laura. I would ask him how they came to live with him, and what the circumstances were.. I would ask him what his wife's real name was, Judy, Julie, or Juda!! Also his own lineage!! And last but not least I would ask him about all the places he lived, and was he the "Wiley" in all of these places: 1850 Newton Co. MS: Wiley YOUNG age 50 b. ca1800 GA 1860 Newton Co. MS Wiley YOUNG age 62 unkn. b. ca1798 unknown location 1870 Clarke Co. MS: Wiley YOUNG age 70 b. ca1800 MS All the while I would be recording this, as I tend to be forgetful at times, especially when anxious or excited about something...... The only problem is we wouldn't have time to eat Thansgiving dinner, for talking...Well, I suppose this would make good dinner conversation...Then when finshed we would go sit on the front porch rocking chairs, and he could watch his GGGG'grandchildren playing...And I would watch to see his reaction as to how much things have changed in the last 125 years. And hopefully the grandchildren would sit and listen as he talked about the "Good 'Ol Days"! Gaylynn Young Cooper

    1. Re: [MSNEWTON] LISTOWNER POST - Thanksgiving Dinner
    2. I would invite James J Monroe to my Thanksgiving dinner. He was born 1812 in NC, and came to Newton Co about 1837. He was a postmaster of Decatur, then a circuit clerk, lawyer and State Representative. He married Blanche Kelly from GA, in 1842, and had 12 children before she died in 1861. He married Mrs Glass, who had a son named Tom Glass, then had child # 13. The second Mrs Monroe died in 1864. James J Monroe experienced the Civil War years, and died in 1867. His oldest and newly married daughter, Sarah Johanna Gilmore, took charge of her younger siblings, and eventually moved to TX about 1869. At least 3 of his sons moved to Yalobusha Co and worked for the RR, where two of them were killed, possibly in a union riot. James J Monroe, according to family oral history, was a nephew of Pres Monroe, but I have not found a connection to either of Pres Monroe's brothers. The age difference leads me to believe he may be a grand nephew. The only names I have found him connected with in NC AND Newton Co, are Daniel and Archibald Monroe. I would love to have an after-dinner conversation with James J Monroe, to hear his "Gone With the Wind" story of his life during the Civil War in Newton County. I would pour him a drink, and light his cigar, as I learned from an old Decatur store ledger that he enjoyed these two things. Fran Bolton

Hammond marrying Frankie Gilmore on 12 Feb 1846, but don't have place. So if you see that marriage in Marengo Co, AL, and the name is Frances Gibson, not Gilmore, perhaps it's a typo because it's the same date. My source was a typed sheet handed down in the Hudson family, probably authored by Mrs. W.S. Hammond of West Lafayette, LA. I'm pretty sure that Frances's maiden name was Gilmore, because I heardabout Gilmore relatives in that family. I have no Thomas Jefferson Hammond (s) or Mary Elizabeth Hale. Good luck.
