    2. Thank you so much....I have been to the cemetery and made pictures of the gravesites..I just need to go to the courthouse and see if I can find anything there. The Rachael that is buried next to them was their young daughter. My Grandaddy told us that while Rachael was sick a screech owl flew in the house and landed on her bed and she passed away the next day. After that my "Papa" got his gun and killed it and I'm told he would kill any that he saw after that. I love all the stories that are told. I would if our children will have stories to relate. Thank you so much for this information. Sylvia McMinn

    3. It seems that Neshoba Co is full of interesting stories such as the one Sylvia McMimm relates about the screech owl landing on the bed of Rachael Winstead and the child subsequently dying. Does anyone know if there has ever been a book written documenting some of these stories and perhaps examining the origins of the stories? I've wondered to what extend the Indian heritage of Neshoba Co plays in all this. Their legends certainly involve a lot of interactions between humans and animals. My Mom (Pauline Hardy) grew up in Neshoba Co in the 1920-1930's and genuinely believed that if you heard a screech owl holler you could stop it by turning your pants pockets inside out. I asked how that worked and she said it turned the screech owl inside out. Maybe Sylvia's Granddaddy wouldn' t have had to do all that shooting if he had known that (grin).
