I recently participated in the Stewart/Stuart DNA project and got an exact match with only one other group so far. Other Stewart/Stuart families were not even close! That family was the James and Mary Lafferty Stewart family that settled the Cowpasture area of VA in the early 1700's. I have seen another researcher list Benjamin F. & Henry C. Stewart of Neshoba County as possible members of this same family. I would like to compare notes with any descendants of these families. My Neshoba County Stuart family is William Davis Stuart who lived near the Arlington Community. George Stuart
Thank you Mr. Stuart for you information. I did not know there had been a project of a DNA for Stewart/Stuart. I just the last few months found Stewart in my line. When my great grandfather William James married Angelina Stewart in Texas in 1843 and her father gave consent and his name was William Stewart and his wife Sarah. I don't really know where they were before Texas but I have found that Angelina Stewart was born 1824 in Ind. And my great grandfather Wm. James was also born in Ind. So I kinda thought (nothing to go on) that maybe the families knew each other before going to Texas. I did have a great grandfather in Neshoba but he was on the other side of my family. His name was Benjamin Roberts and he was born abt 1800 in MS and died at Neshoba about 1858/or 1859. I can not find anything on him at all except I do have all his childrens -( my grandmother being a daughter) and his wife was Frances (Fannie) Searcy. daughter of John Searcy and Susannah Cole who was daughter of James Cole Jr. and Mary Rentfroe. Any information on any of these line would be a big help. Thanks again Billie ----- Original Message ----- From: "George Stuart" <gwstuart@c-gate.net> To: <MSNESHOB-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, January 11, 2004 10:07 PM Subject: [MSNESHOB] Stewart-Stuart in Neshoba County. > I recently participated in the Stewart/Stuart DNA project and got an > exact match with only one other group so far. > Other Stewart/Stuart families were not even close! > That family was the James and Mary Lafferty Stewart family that settled > the Cowpasture area of VA in the early 1700's. > I have seen another researcher list Benjamin F. & Henry C. Billie Sue, I don't have anything on any of the names you mentioned. The Stewart/Stuart DNA project is like all the other surname projects. It is basically a paternity test with more markers tested. It will only test an unbroken line of male descent. I have heard of a female descent test but I know nothing about it. http://www.angelfire.com/nb/stewartdna/ResultsStewartDNA.htm The above link will take you to the results page of the Stewart test. Good luck, George Stuart -----Original Message----- From: Billie Sue McGill [mailto:billies@getgoin.net] Sent: Monday, January 12, 2004 7:37 AM To: MSNESHOB-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [MSNESHOB] Stewart-Stuart in Neshoba County.
