Many libraries will have a copy of the schedule. You can have your local library search through the nationwide lending system to see if libraries who own copies of the mortality index will lend it to your local library. I happened to see copies of both the 1850 and 1860 Mississippi indexes at the State Library of Michigan last year (not much help for Mississippi residents as I don't think they lend it out) and was able to find proof of my gggrandmother's death and the reason. It's the only existing proof we've been able to find of her death, as we can't find the church records to check there.
