Billie, It's nice to hear from you. Well, I wish I could help you, but I really don't know anything about the Beard family. It is true that one of the children of my great, great grandparents (John Clark and Elizabeth McKee) married an Alexander Beard, Jr. That was Nancy Clark, born on December 17, 1816 in Lincoln Co., TN. She married Alexander Beard, Jr. on January 15, 1838 in Lincoln Co., TN. Nancy was the second oldest child of John and Elizabeth Clark. I doubt very much that the first Alexander Beard married a Clark and then the son, Alexander, Jr. also married a Clark. I bet that people have gotten it all confused - maybe because Nancy's mother was named Elizabeth. I have a similar situation on my mother's side of the family, with the surname of Strickland. In that case, my 3rd great grandfather, Edward Gilbert, married a Mary ? in the 1750's (I'm just assuming that's when it was) in Guilford Co., North Carolina. We have never found out her maiden name. Now, some say that she was a Strickland. Well, I just don't believe it because two of Edward and Mary's children (one being my 2nd great grandfather) - William and John - they both married Strickland sisters. I know that people used to marry their cousins a long time ago - I guess because there weren't too many women around, but I just don't believe that this was the case. Now, it could have been a completely different Strickland family - not even realted - but I highly doubt it. Same thing could be true with your Beard's, I suppose. I know there was at least one other Clark family in Lincoln Co. besides mine. If I find anything, I will certainly let you know. Good luck, Billie. Thanks Sue for your reply, It does help to know that the marriage of Alexander Jr. and Nancy Clark is right. I will just have to keep looking. I don't know if they married in Lincoln County, TN or if they married in NC before going to TN. I feel that if his date of birth is right (1777) and he did not go to TN until about 1808 that he must have been married before he was 31 years old. but all the children that he and Elizabeth have (that I know of) was born in TN I have never been able to find anything on him or his father (John Beard) in Buncomb County, NC Thanks again Sue, Billie ----- Original Message ----- From: "suehoward" <suehoward@prodigy.net> To: <MSNESHOB-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, November 18, 2003 9:45 AM Subject: Re: [MSNESHOB] McKees of Neshoba Co., MS early 1800's > Billie, > > It's nice to hear from you.
